Summary
Over the last week, Bohemia Interactive has been the victim of a DDOS attack targetingArma ReforgerandDayZservers.
As reported byGamepressure, project lead Klamacz stated on January 30 that the issue “was resolved within a few hours”, but just one day later, Twitter user @kevindenheijer replied, “It’s down again”.

I think we pi**ed someone off —project lead Klamacz.
A megathread dedicated to the server issueswas opened yesterday on the Arma Reforger subreddit to contain the influx of complaints.
Bohemia Interactive, meanwhile, tweeted an official statementdirectly addressing the situation: “Dear community, we are aware of the technical issues currently affecting our games online and want to assure you that we are working round the clock to resolve them as soon as possible.”

Several comments from last night claimed that the “Servers are back” and that Bohemia was finally able to stop the DDOS attack. But looking at the megathread, other players from just four hours ago report running into the same connection issues. The attack doesn’t appear to be over just yet.
What Do The Hackers Want?
Russian hacking group Xiangjang_zhi swiftly took credit on February 1, and while it has been reported that the hackers want a ransom of 0.08 Bitcoin (ie $78,000), this wasn’t a serious request. The group, also known as StyleSquad6996, said on Telegram that the demand was a “joke” and that they “don’t need any money”. Over on Twitter, the group paints the attack as more of a protest.
“Arma players! We have been continuing the attack on Bohemia for several hours now,“StyleSquad6996 tweeted. “The players are suffering and the changes in the defense of the game are not changing, think about how important you are to this company as players […] Bohemia doesn’t care about you”.

Whether this is the real reason is unclear. Some speculate that the attacks are because of community-run servers which simulatethe Russia-Ukraine war, while others believe that it’s simply for ‘fun’.
StyleSquad6996 also stated in several tweets that “the attacks will stop as soon as Klamacz [contacts] us”, even tagging him directly.

Players still appear to be having issues with Arma Reforger and DayZ servers, while Bohemia has not yet posted a follow-up to its initial statement.
