Summary
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flagis strangely showing up as “Announced” on thePlayStationStore right now, which could suggest an announcement for the long-rumoured remake is imminent.
While it’s true that the recent release ofAssassin’s Creed Shadowsis perhaps thebiggest moment the series has seen in quite some time, that doesn’t mean the ball isn’t still rolling over atUbisoft. We’ve known about other projects for some time, such as Hexe and Jade, but it’s been reported thatthere are at least 10 projects expected to release over the next five years.

Leaks regardingmostof those unannounced games have been slim on the ground, but we do know about a few of them, such as the multiplayer spin-off game codenamed Invictusand therumoured co-op mode for Shadows. Perhaps the most interesting of them all, though, is the long-rumoured remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag Spotted As “Announced” On The PlayStation Store
Does PlayStation Know Something We Don’t?
Some time ago,Insider Gaming reported that Ubisoft was working on a remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag codenamed Obsidian. That rumour was backed up by several sites and insiders, and we’ve heard a few updates about it since initially being leaked. With Shadows only just launching and having suffered several delays, it’s left a lot of questions about the state and plans for the rumoured remake.
As pointed out by Redditor FireTyphoon123 on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, we might just have an unlikely update on the leaked project. Over on the PlayStation Store,Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is currently listed as being “Announced”, which is the tag that’s usually given to games that have just been revealed.
I checked it out myself and Black Flag is indeed still showing as “Announced” on the PlayStation Store, at least through using the mobile app.
It’s not really clear why Black Flag has been given this tag, but it seems likely that it’s accidentally been done through the PlayStation Store’s backend. While it could just be a complete mistake and not mean anything, it is especially interesting considering all of therumours that have already been going around about Black Flag getting remade.
As for when we might actually see the project get announced, the most likely bet is during Ubisoft Connect this Summer.Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson recently suggested that Black Flag was slated for release this yearbut might have been moved due to Shadows' delay, but we won’t know for sure until it’s officially revealed.
