As announced by official Assassin’s Creed social media accounts,Assassin’s Creed Shadowshas been delayed from February 14 to March 20. This is the game’s second delay, having previously been delayed from the original release date of November 15.
“Since November, we’ve been thrilled to share our progress through Gameplay Overviews, and the overwhelming excitement has truly inspired us,” the post begins. “Each week has brought valuable feedback from our community. While we’ve already made remarkable strides, we believe a few additional weeks are needed to implement that feedback and ensure an even more ambitious and engaging day-one experience.

The statement continues, “Accordingly, the new release date is May 29, 2025. We remain committed to delivering a high-quality, immersive experience—fostered by ongoing dialogue between our players and development teams.”
Ubisoft Searching for a Buyer
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreierreports a statement from Ubisoft founder and chief executive officer Yves Guillemot and himself predicts that one of the reasons for the delay is that Ubisoft is continuing to look for a buyer that will take the company private, in partnership with the founding Guillemot family.
“[The company is pursuing] various transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders,” Ubisoft says. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Ubisoft’s only major upcoming release, with a lot of importance being placed on the company’s flagship series following the relative underperformance of Star Wars Outlaws.

This delay comes amid a tumultuous time at Ubisoft as the company’s stock price has depreciated over 40 per cent in the past year, and 80 per cent over the past five years. The founding Guillemot family, along with investors Tencent, are exploring privatization options.
As mentioned in the earlier statement, the team behind Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been sharing the upcoming game’s features with the community through the regular release of Gameplay Overviews. Unfortunately for fans, they will now have to wait until March to get their hands on Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
