Summary
WithAssassin’s Creed Shadowsfinally out in the wild, more than two million players have already dived into the world of Feudal Japan. So much sothat Shadows is now the owner of the highest peak concurrent player count on Steam.
That said, for as many people that are jumping into Shadows over the weekend, not everyone is too high on the game’s various “effects.” Things like outlines while in stealth, or trails in the sky when firing an arrow can break immersion. That’s why one gamer took it upon themselves to remove all “silly effects” via a newPCmod.

It’s One Of The Most Downloaded Shadows Mods
Over on NexusMods, user RealisticGamer has added the “Remove Silly Effects” modto the game’s existing catalog of improvements. Through the mod, the white outline while in stealth, arrow trails and loot hints, among other visual effects, have all been eliminated.
Since its launch two days ago, the mod already has over 1,000 downloads. It’s only bested byHDR fixesand a separate mod thatremoves the intro screen entirely.

Naturally, the realism it aims to bring has been a hit with those who’ve downloaded it. “Just want to also say a huge thank you, I didn’t realise this also removes SFX from weapons and armor… this is 1000% recommended,“one user wrote. “I am willing to actually buy armour sets now.”
Of course, Assassin’s Creed is probably the last franchise anyone should be looking towards for realism. But it is clear that there is an appetite for fewer visual gimmicks. Unfortunately, console gamers are left in the weeds, but perhaps a similar update can be made down the line.
