Summary

Assassin’s Creed Shadowshas been getting a lot of negative attention. While the bulk of this is due to thediscord around Yasuke’s origin, players are alsotired of the same old Assassin’s Creed formula. While Shadows looks like it will change things up with its dual protagonists, fans are worried it may not be much different from AC Odyssey or Valhalla.

It’s such a strange thing that we’ve been asking for an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan for years, but now that we’re finally getting it, it’s getting a lot of hate. Regardless, it seems Ubisoft always had an installment planned for Japan but was waiting for the right moment to begin working on it.

Ubisoft Waited For Tech Advancement Before Starting Work On Assassin’s Creed Shadows

With such a highly requested setting, it seems Ubisoft wanted to deliver something truly special. For whatever reason, the studio felt that the tech available during the time of Odyssey and Valhalla was not advanced enough to deliver the vision it had for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. So, the studio decided to wait till its technical capabilities were at the level the game demanded.

In a conversation withYouTuber Genki Gamer(viaGameranx), creative director Jonathan Dumont revealed that Ubisoft finally decided to make an Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan as the studio felt that they had achieved “the technical abilities as a well as a good story to put together the right ingredients to make this game.”

It’s evident that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is probably the most important game for Ubisoft in a really long time. After severalhigh-profile failures like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, the company can’t afford to put out another middling performance. Shadows was already delayed twice, the second time in order toimprove the parkour mechanics and further polish the game.

Ubisoft recently noted that you can 100 percent the game as either Naoe or Yasuke, butfans are worried about what kind of impact that would have on the narrative.
