Summary
While the idea of an Assassin’s Creed set in Feudal-era Japan was all that series fans wanted for the longest time,Assassin’s Creed Shadowshas unfortunately been getting dragged ever since it was first revealed. While a big part of this was due to Yasuke’s origins, the stale Ubisoft open-world formula was also a part of the issue.
This was furtherfueled by multiple delays, giving naysayers more ammo against a game they haven’t even played. However, recent previews for Shadows have been relatively positive, giving fans some hope. It seems Ubisoft wants to immediately capitalize on this upward trajectory by offering a story DLC for free if you pre-order the game.

You Can Get The Claws Of Awaji Story Expansion For Free On Assassin’s Creed Shadows Pre-Orders
As you probably know by now, Ubisoft is notorious for its monetization systems, even in single player games like the Assassin’s Creed series. Some really great looking armour is locked behind paywalls, but the worst part of this practice is the permanent double XP boost that you can buy to make progression less of a grind.
This offer, while seemingly great on its own, is probably an attempt to garner positive sentiment and also make a few quick bucks off pre-orders. The timing of the offer is also pretty convenient – right after the relatively positive previews. To be fair, I’m possibly looking at this from a negative perspective, but it’s very hard not to do so given Ubisoft’s monetary notoriety.

“In Claws of Awaji, feel the fear of being hunted and under threat on a mysterious island,” says the description for the expansion. “Reclaim a lost treasure while avoiding the traps and ambushes of deadly new foes. Master the Bō, a new weapon type, unlock new skills, gear, abilities, and get over 10 hours of additional content.”
If you were going to buy Assassin’s Creed Shadows anyway, this is a pretty good offer. A ten-plus hour expansion for free is quite a good deal. However, you’ll have to wait till the DLC launches, later in 2025.
