GTA 6is probably going to be the biggest game of 2025 – that’s if it doesn’t get delayed and Half-Life 3 doesn’t get launched. There’s no doubt that GTA 6 will be setting a few standards for the next generation of video games. However, we recently learnt from anindustry analyst that here are some who “hope” GTA 6 would set the precedent for $100 pricing.
Most triple-A games already cost $70, and only a game as big and anticipated as GTA 6 could possibly create an industry-wide price change. While there has been no word on this by developer Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive, the prediction is causing quite a stir in the industry. Even Michael Douse, the head of publishing atBaldur’s Gate 3studioLarianhas weighed in with some “uncomfortable truth”.

The Uncomfortable Truth Of The Video Game Industry
“You’re not supposed to say this out loud!!!!” wrote Douse while retweetingVGC’s report on the $100 pricing. “A good company raises salaries in line with inflation so that their staff don’t die or something, but games prices haven’t risen with inflation. This isn’t the reason the industry is in the shit for now, but it is an uncomfortable truth.
“On the other hand, the responsibility for a game developer is to make sure that the game they show lives up to that promise, and that investment from the player,” he continued. “I’m not always gonna say stuff you love but I’m always gonna say stuff with love.”
Of course, just because a publisher decides to price a game at $100, it doesn’t mean that the development team is going to get a raise. In fact, even with increasing profits, the video game industry has been seeing layoff after layoff, with new studios getting downsized or shuttered every day.
When it comes to GTA 6, it’s perhaps the only game that will be able to dictate a $100 price point, as, no matter what, every one is going to buy it. Rockstar and Take Two have already been making piles thanks to GTA Online, and you may bet there’s a plan to rework it as well.
