Summary

Baldur’s Gate 3is fast approaching itslast major updateafter two years, which means that creative director Swen Vincke — and much of Larian Studios — is now solely focused on its next project.

“It really has been an incredible journey so far. But the story ain’t over yet,“Vincke tweeted, responding to a video about Larian Studios' history and how it went from near bankruptcy to launching one of the most critically acclaimed RPGs in the medium’s history (as reported byVideoGamer). “Stay tuned. Going to attempt to skip the dark night of the soul moment though if you don’t mind.”

We don’t know what Larian has in store for us, but it revealed in July 2024 thatits new game was about to “lift off”, and that the early stages of development had just begun. All we know at the moment is that it’s not anotherDungeons & Dragonsgame, as Larian seeks to “develop [its] own IPs”. Perhaps it’s an entirely new series, aDivinity: Original Sin 2sequel, or even both.

Larian Studios Has Two Games In Development

Larian Studios actually has two games in development right now, which is whyit opened a seventh studio in Warsaw, Poland last year. All Larian has said of these two games so far is that they are “very ambitious RPGs”, and thatfans should “let [them] cook”. Their settings, stories, or whether they’ll launch in early access like Larian’s last two games, all remains a mystery.

There’s no word on when we can expect to find out more, but Larian did tell VideoGamer that it has entered a “media blackout” as its “full attention is focused” on its next game. So, don’t expect an update any time soon. In fact, Vincke replied to his tweet that he’s “pretty sure someone else is working on the next rung of the infinite ladder of RPG dev” in the meantime.
