Summary
Baldur’s Gate 3fans have been eagerly awaiting Patch 8 for quite some time, the final one beforeLarian moves onto all things new and exciting. We’ve already seen people get their requests in,with many still hoping for improvements to the Dark Urge story, but those requests may be too late, as it seems Patch 8 is more or less ready to go.
Much to the surprise of everyone, it was reported earlier today that several Baldur’s Gate 3 fans across Europe and Asia were given access to Patch 8 ahead of time. Understandably confused, especially since Patch 8’s stress test hadn’t even begun yet, many flocked to social media to see what the deal was. Turns out, even Larian itself was confused by the drama.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Devs Are Helping Fans After Patch 8 Accidentally Releases On PS5
In a tweet via the official Larian Twitter account earlier today, the devs admitted that Patch 8 had been released early on PS5, through no fault of their own. They warn that anyone that saves their game with this accidental patch may ruin their playthroughs, as the new saves will no longer be compatible with Patch 7, and possibly not even compatible with the real Patch 8 when it officially drops.
Not much later, Larian managed to pull the update from PS5 and began cleaning up after this little farce. In a blog post on the official Baldur’s Gate 3 website, they advise those that have accidentally downloaded Patch 8 to completely delete the game from their consoles. If you check the bottom right corner of the main menu and see either “version 01.800.000 or 4.1.1.6583053”, then you’ve installed Patch 8.
You can then redownload the game from scratch, and you should then be back on Patch 7. Unfortunately, if you’ve overwritten a save with Patch 8 installed, then you might have to kiss your playthrough goodnight. Larian doesn’t provide any answers for people in this predicament, though you could also keep playing and cross your fingers your new save will be compatible when Patch 8 rolls out. If not, my condolences.
