Summary

By popular demand, the Businesses and Hobbies DLC has introduced pottery toThe Sims 4. Buying a pottery wheel will enable your Sims to make a wide variety of housewares and art objects, while the kiln will allow them to glaze their creations in all sorts of fun colors.

The list of items your Sims can makewith the Pottery skillis pretty extensive, but not all projects are created equal. While some items look great regardless of the glaze, others need the right color to really shine. Here’s everything your Sims can make using the pottery wheel in Businesses and Hobbies.

A gnome sculpture in The Sims 4 sits outside a house.

14Romantic Sculpture

This sculpture is pretty underwhelming. It doesn’t have much personality, and resembles something that would sit on the shelves of a Home Goods for eternity. It’s the kind of knickknack that begs to be placed next to your Sims' ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ signs.

Adding insult to injury is the fact that your Sims need to max out their Pottery skill to make this statue. There are better things to make at this point, and you were probably imagining something more impressive to cap off your Sims' skill journey.

An oil burner with the blush glaze sits atop a bedside table in The Sims 4.

13Gnome Sculpture

In earlier Sims games, you were able to make gnome sculptures using the woodworking tables. Gnomes have been a fixture in the series since its inception, so you’d think that a gnome sculpture made in the pottery wheel would do the gnomes justice.

Unfortunately, the look of this gnome statue isn’t at all like the standard gnomes from the base game. It’s pretty jarring, especially when giving players new gnome variants would have been a great addition to the game.

12Abstract Sculpture

There’s nothing wrong with this sculpture, but whether or not it looks cool is entirely dependent on the glaze you use. Choosing the blush or matte glazes will just result in a flat color, while the contemporary glaze makes it look raw and earthy.

The best part about these small abstract sculptures is that they take up a relatively small amount of space in terms of object slots. That means you can easily put them on an end table or mantle while still having room for other clutter items.

11Abstract Wall Sculpture

Finding the right focal point for your wall can be tough. It always seems like every painting or wall hanging is either the wrong size, or the vibes are off entirely. Thankfully, this wall sculpture is here for any modern space.

Like the smaller abstract sculptures, what glaze you use makes all the difference in terms of the final look. The undersides of the sculpture tend to remain unglazed regardless of the finish you choose, so make sure to pick one that complements the red clay color well.

10Candle Lantern

There aren’t enough candles for your Sims' tabletops. Sure, the candle-making skill exists if you have the Eco Lifestyle DLC, but not everyone has this content. With that in mind, anything that adds more small candles to the game is great.

The candle lantern is pretty space-efficient and can go on most tables and shelves in the game without too many issues. Customizing the look with different glazes will also enable you to coordinate the lantern with the rest of your Sims' room.

9Round Vase

The round vase is the first item your Sims can make using the pottery wheel. There’s nothing wrong with it, but this vase is still pretty basic compared to the other crafts you may make later on. You can place flowers in it, but it looks better empty.

If there’s one complaint to be made about this vase, it’s that it’s too big to fit in a lot of object slots. You need to devote an entire end table’s worth of space to it, which makes it a poor choice if you like cluttering up your Sims' spaces.

8Planter Pot

The planter pot is the second item you learn to create with your pottery wheel. However, it’s notable in that it’s the first item that has a practical use. It makes the perfect gift for any Sim with a green thumb.

There are only two problems with the planter pot. The first is that it’s very labor and time-intensive to make one, so having an entire greenhouse of handmade planters is unrealistic for most Sims. Depending on what you plant inside, the beautiful craftsmanship might also be covered up by the plant.

7Intricate Vase

you may technicallyput flowers in this vase, but it looks better on its own as an art object. Unlike the abstract sculpture, this vase looks great in most of the glazes, making it ideal as an accent piece for any home.

Unlike the other vases you’re able to make with the Pottery skill, the Intricate Vase is fairly space-efficient. It’s easily placed on top of even the slimmest of end tables, meaning you’ve got plenty of room left for those sweet, sweet clutter objects.

6Incense Burner

The Incense Burner looks great with just about any glaze in the game, and is small enough to fit on a Sim’s bedside table along with the rest of their clutter. You can light it for a variety of different mood-influencing scents.

A word of caution here: the incense burner can become a fire hazard if your Sims have a low Wellness skill. It’s best not to leave them unattended, as they can and will be destroyed if they burst into flames.

5Oil Burner

Like the Incense Burner, the Oil Burner allows you to use different scents to improve your Sims' moods. Because they’re small and can fit on just about any surface with slots, they’re great for any space where a little aromatherapy is appreciated.

Most of the glazes look pretty good on this item, so you’ll have no problem making one that fits your home’s vibe. However, just like the Incense Burner, it’s possible to start a fire if you’re not careful.
