General Tips To Rank Up In Competitive
In moving through the ranks of competitive, there aresome general tips to be aware of that will help you improve your gameplay. Here’s a breakdown of what to work on for lower ranks.
If you’re starting to crawl out of lower rankslike Bronze or Silverbut feel hardstuck in more mid-tier ranks, here are some things to work onin your gameplay.
Spend some time in the Character Selection screen off the main menu in Rivals. Each character’s ability breakdown often shows how combos work and what team-up abilities are goodfor certain situations.
How To Rank Up Solo
If you’re playing solo, sometimes,it might feel like there’s not much you can do to rank up, especially if your teammates are letting you go. In reality, there’s a lot you can do, even as a solo player.
Here are the key gameplay strategies you’ll want to consider when ranking up solo.
Create Opportunities
Create opportunities for yourself in a match rather than wait around for others to do it for you.
This meanssiloing off enemy heroes, trapping enemies, or picking off backline heroes.
Many heroes can buff themselves, creating endless synergy.
Eitheruse abilities that self-heal, create shields, or use alternative forms, like Punisher’s turret form, to keep yourself alive.
Flank
As a solo player,if you feel comfortable taking aggressive off-angles, you should.
This will allow your team to push in and take space while you’re distracting or picking off the backline.
How To Rank Up As A Team
If you’re playing in a team, the most important thing you’re able to do is use comms. This is always helpful in solo matches as well, but if you’re all already comfortable playing and communicating with one another, there’s no reason not touse in-game comms.
In addition to comms, here are some basic pointers, particularly for lower ranks, to rank up as a team.
How To Rank Up In Each Role
Beyond these general tips and tricks for ranking up,you’ll want to spend some time refining each role’s skills and assets. This will help you rank up more intentionally, particularly if you main one role and don’t consider yourself a flex player.
How To Rank Up As A Strategist
As a Strategist, there’s sometimes an expectation that your main objective is to heal. While you do want to make sure you keep your team up,becoming a heal-bot is one of the worst things you can dofor your rank.
Oftentimes, teammates may accuse you of not healing enough. While healing output is a good stat to keep an eye on, makesure your assists are strong, too!
Here are some tips and tricks, as well as some skills worth improving, to help yourank up as a Strategist.
Maximum Healing Output
While every Strategist can heal, there are many ways that certain heroes can maximize their healing output.
For example, have Luna attach her Idol Aura to a flank hero. This means that, as she heals her Vanguard, she’ll be maximizing additional healing for her flanking duelist.
Positioning
Low-rank Strategists are often positioned far out in the openor all alone in an off-angle.
Use environmental cover when possible, or use Loki’s invisibility or Rocket’s jetpack to make sure you’re able to get away safely. You can’t heal if you’re in spawn.
Ultimate Counters
Strategist ultimates are some of the best abilitiesin the game. But you should primarilyuse them to counter other heroes.
Luna’s or even the Invisible Woman’s ults can counter Punisher or Thor, and many other near-deadly ultimates in the gameif timed correctly.
How To Rank Up As A Vanguard
Proper Vanguard playis also often misunderstood. The biggest thing to keep in mind when playing a Vanguard ispositioning and team composition.
Overall, here are some skills worth refiningif you want to rank up as a Vanguard.
Taking Space
The biggest mistake low-rank Vanguards make has to do with not taking space;you need to be the one to push the point.
Duelists and Strategists, by default, are not going to take space and push the objective. If your team secures a pick or has an advantage, push forwardto try to capture the objective or point.
Knowing When To Dive
Dive Vanguards are greatand, if played correctly, can really turn the tide of battle.
But if you dive when your entire team is already down, your attack will be wasted.Make sure you’re timing your dives correctlyand peeling backward for your team when necessary.
Damage Absorption
Frontline tanks are meant to take damage, especially those that have shields.
If your team is contesting a diving Vanguard or Duelist, try to absorb the damage they’re doing for your Strategists or Duelistsso that they stay alive.
How To Rank Up As A Duelist
Duelists are a highly varied class. Depending onthe type of Duelistyou’re playing, your competitive journey might vary from other players.
Generally speaking, though, here are some of the best tips and tricks you need to knowto rank up quickly as a Duelist. These apply to almost every type of Duelistin the game.
Play Flex
Know when it’s time to switch. Sometimes, your main Duelist might not be working for the situation you’re in, or it might be better to have an extra Strategist.
There’s no shame in switching, but don’t waste multiple fights playing a dive Duelist like Psylocke if the enemy Strategists can easily counter you.
Understand Your Duelist’s Role
If you’re playing a diving duelist like Iron Fist, don’t waste time attacking the enemy Vanguardin the front line.
Your team is expecting you tosecure eliminations in the backline, so focus on that.
Force Counter Ultimates
The worst thing that can happen to a Duelist is to have your ultimate or signature ability wasted.
If you’re playing Storm and you have your ultimate ready, try to bait out the enemy Luna or Invisible Woman’s ultimate by attacking them directlyso that they can’t counter your ultimate when the time comes.
