Borderlands 4just got a new trailer at PlayStation’s State of Play, giving us a more in-depth look at the gameplay. The trailer also confirms the release date: July 03, 2025.
As well as the release date, the trailer gives us our best look at the gameplay yet. This includes a lot of shots of the first-person gameplay, as well as a bunch of new weapons we can use to mow down enemies - of whichthere will apparently be “billions” in the final game.

Taking a look at this gameplay preview, the sequel is undoubtedly very Borderlands. While gameplay is certainly striking the right tone, we’ve already been told toexpect less “toilet humour” this time around, so the jokes might have changed with the times.
The release date reveal comes just two months afterthe game’s big unveil at The Game Awardslast December. It served as a good pallet cleanser for the failure of the film adaptation, which was a miss with fans and critics alike, while alsobombing at the box office. Needless to say, fans will be hoping that Borderlands 4 makes up for all of this.
At the very least, it was reported thatthe film boosted game sales. So, at least Gearbox got something out of the entire ordeal.
This is the first new mainline Borderlands game since Borderlands 3 in 2019. We did get Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands in 2022 though, so it hasn’t been an overly long wait for more Borderlands games.
This comes as part of PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast. Many other games were also showcased, including agameplay reveal for Sonic Racing: CrossWorldsandthe reveal of Digimon Story: Time Stranger.
While Borderlands 4 was just platformed at the Sony showcase, it’s launching on Xbox Series X/S and PC, as well as PlayStation 5, all on September 23 of this year.
