Summary
The version ofCall of Duty: Black Ops 6thatlaunched in October of last yearis nearly indistinguishable to the version of Black Ops 6 that exists right now. Tucked away are the launch-day militaristic operators, and in are the likesof the recently released Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, figuresfrom Squid Gameandeven The Terminator.
That’s not to make mention of non-crossover characterslike a blue iceman that was being labeled “pay-to-win” due to its ability to obstruct vision. Ora finishing move involving a unicorn farting on the opponent. Or theaccusations of non-disclosed AI use in the game. With all that in mind, earlier this week, one gamer pointed out just how absurd things have gotten in the four months since launch.
Do You Want Some Crossovers With Your Call Of Duty?
Taking to Twitter, B23, a Call of Duty content creator, shared what Black Ops 6’s operators page looks like as of this week, and to no surprise, it’s nearly all crossovers.
Right off the rip, you can see all four Ninja Turtles, plus The Replacer and his Blackcell variant, along with T-800 and various Squid Game characters. For reference, minus the recently released Turtles, the cost of all those skins is about $1,000, according to calculations done by our Sam Woods.
A quick peek at the screen andit’s no wonder why gamers have been calling for the game to be free-to-play. Between the mass number of operator skins, plus event passes and battle passes, there is no shortage of microtransactions in Black Ops 6. Perhaps most noteworthy is the fact that, ahead of launch, Treyarch affirmed that it would not be implementing “Carry Forward” skins in BO6.
At the time,a blog post noted that, “Allowing everyone to experience the Black Ops universe the way it’s meant to be played, learning the era-specific weapons and gear, learning the gameplay innovations like Omnimovement, and keeping that signature Black Ops style is important.”
Those words led fans to speculate that it would mean fewer ridiculous skins and more era-specific items. Of course, all of that wasn’t meant to be, and for better or worse, Black Ops 6 has since followed the path of previous Call of Duty titles and it shows no signs of stopping.
