Summary
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Season 2 update is nearly upon us, with a launch date set for January 28, AKA tomorrow. Beyond finally allowing console players to disable crossplayto go alongwith improvements to the proprietary RICHOCHET Anti-Cheat system, Season 2 will bring back a fan favorite mode.
As outlined in the Call of Duty blog, Gun Game is set to make its return to available game modes. Unfortunately, it won’t be available at launch. Rather, it’s been given a Week 2 debut, which should put its release around the week of Feb. 3. Still, it’s a huge win for longtimeCall of Dutyfans looking for a casual, fast-paced match.
For the uninitiated, Gun Game has been a staple of COD games since its introduction in the original Black Ops in 2010. Come Season 2, it’ll retain the original ruleset, which is as follows:
Operators begin the match with the same starting weapon and cycle through the same set of 20 weapons, varying from match to match. Eliminate enemies to advance to the next weapon, testing your skills across a variety of weapon types.
Other Noteworthy Season 2 Additions
Beyond the addition of Gun Game, Season 2 will also see the launch of Overdrive. The mode is described as a “twist” on the traditional Team Deathmatch, with teams competing to earn the maximum number of stars. Per the blog notes, each “Star” will provide a unique ability ranging from the ability to see through walls (1 Star) to improved hip-fire accuracy (6 Stars).
And as is the case with other seasonal updates, players will have access to new maps and weapons, as well as attachments.Given how players have soured on Black Ops 6 in the time since it launched, Season 2 could be the shot in the arm the franchise needs.
