Castrum Meridianum is a level 50 Dungeon inFinal Fantasy 14, and the second to last Dungeon in the Patch 2.0 A Realm Reborn MSQ. With Operation Archon underway, it is up to you to shut down the Magitek barrier generator and secure a path into the Praetorium, where the Ultimate Weapon awaits.

Unlike most other Dungeons, Castrum Meridianum has long cutscenes between encounters. As such, cutscenes in this Dungeon can’t be skipped to ensure all players are able to watch them without being rushed. Keep this in mind as you queue into the Dungeon. Below, we’ll take a look at how to beat every boss in Castrum Meridianum, including each of their attacks and mechanics.

How To Unlock Castrum Meridianum

Castrum Meridianum unlocks through the Main Scenario Quest’Rock the Castrum', which is thepenultimate quest in the 2.0 A Realm Reborn questline. Follow along through this quest until the Dungeon unlocks, and you’ll be able to head in through the Duty Finder or the entrance in Northern Thanalan.

The Black Eft

The first boss of Castrum Meridianum is The Black Eft, as well as several 8th Cohort soldiers. The soldiers will mainly use auto-attacks or cast Fire, while the Black Eft has a few attacks to look out for.

High-powered Magitek Ray

Line AoE

Deals damage in anuntelegraphed AoE to the front of the boss. When you see it casting this attack, you will also see it gathering power in its front cannon. Move to either side or behind the boss to avoid this one.

Incendiary Support

Roomwide AoE

Dealsfour hits of damage to the whole party. There’s no way to avoid this attack, so the Healer will need to quicklyrestore the party’s health.

Request Assistance

Summon

Spawnsadditional enemiesto the fight. These will range from more 8th Cohort soldiers to Magitek Colossi. Whenever additional enemies spawn, group them up and use AoE attacks to bring them down.

Magitek Cannon

AoE

Deals damage in acircle AoE near a random player. Simply move out of this AoE to avoid taking damage.

The Black Eft will repeat this series of attacks until it is defeated. Once you’ve taken it down, proceed through theDisposal Chute to the east.

Magitek Vanguard F-1

The second boss of this Dungeon is the Magitek Vanguard F-1. Here are each of the attacks it will use throughout the fight.

Thermobaric Strike

Proximity AoE

Marks a corner of the arena with an AoE thatdeals more damage the closer you are to it. Move to theopposite end of the arenato reduce the damage of this attack.

Hypercharge

Circle/Ring AoE

Creates acircle and ring AoEcentered on the boss, with a smallsafe area between the two AoEs. Move here to avoid both AoEs.

Cermet Drill

Tankbuster

Dealshigh damage to the boss’s main target. Use defensive cooldowns to reduce this damage.

Overcharge

Conal AoE

Deals damage in a widecone to the front of the bossthat inflictsParalysis, periodically interrupting actions. Move outside of the AoE to avoid.

Targeted Support

Circle AoEs

Targets all players withcircle AoEs. Simply move outside the telegraph to avoid these.

The Magitek Vanguard F-1 will repeat these attacks until you defeat it. Overall, this fight is fairly straightforward; avoid the AoEs as they appear and you shouldn’t have any trouble.

Livia Sas Junius

The final boss of Castrum Meridianum is Livia sas Junius. Here are each of the attacks and mechanics she will use.

Artificial Plasma

Deals damage to all party members. Quickly recover with AoE healing.

Roundhouse

Circle AoE

Deals damage in alarge area surrounding Livia. At the same time, she will useDischarge.

Discharge

Createsseveral circle AoEs around the arena. Stand in these to avoid Roundhouse, then quickly move into the newly created safe area to avoid Discharge.

Infinite Reach

Line AoEs

Livia willdash through the center of the arena several times in a row, dealing damage in a line AoE. At the same time,constant barrages of Discharge AoEswill appear. Watch the order in which these AoEs appear to determine where to stand first, then carefully move around the arena to avoid each of them.

Angry Salamander

At the end of Livia’sInfinite Reachcombo, she will use this attack, dealing damage inseveral line AoEs in the center of the arena. Move to a safe spot to avoid.

Proximity AoEs

Livia will createtwo proximity AoEsonopposite sides of the arenathat deal more damage the closer you are to them. At the same time, she will prepareStunning Sweep.

Stunning Sweep

Deals damage in the area around Livia and inflictsParalysis. At the same time, severalDischarge AoEswill explode. To avoid this triad of attacks, firststand near either of the two proximity AoEsuntilStunning Sweepand theDischargeAoEs resolve, then quicklymove to one of the two corners that does not have a proximity AoEto lessen their damage.

On the second use ofThermobaric Strike, she will combine it withAngry Salamander, while also creatingfour proximity AoEs instead of just two. Avoid the line AoEs of Angry Salamander, thenmove to the center of the arenato take the least amount of damage from Thermobaric Strike.

Livia will repeat these attacks until you defeat her. With Livia defeated and the barrier down, you’re able to now progress into the 2.0 quest, ‘The Ultimate Weapon’.
