Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, like many of developer Don’t Nod’s previous games, is full of choice and consequence. Expectations, the game’s opening chapter (or scene, in the game’s terminology), appropriately helps set expectations for how the game’s approach to player agency will work.
Thankfully, this introductory phone conversation with Swann’s mom is pretty low stakes. You get to shape what kind of relationship they have, but nothing you say will trigger the Heart or Broken Heart symbol you’ll see in later conversations. But, there is one consequential choice that you’ll make in this scene which we’ll get into below.

Shadow, Snowy, Or Pumpkin?
Most of what you say to Swann’s mother on the phone has no impact beyond this conversation. But, at this point, you do get todecide what the name of Swann’s cat was. This has the knock-on effect of determining its color. If you say the cat’s name wasPumpkin, it will be orangein the 1995 timeline. If you say its name wasSnowy,it will bewhite. And, if you say its name wasShadow, it will beblack.
Choices that have consequences on the narrative aremarked with the symbol of a growing plant, which you’ll notice accompanies the cat name decision.

Another choice that has a small consequence isfiddling with all the stuff in Swann’s car. If you keep picking up and looking at objects, like her mask or Maple Syrup,Swann’s mom will criticize you for not giving her your full attention.
You can also get off the phone earlier if you want, but Swann’s mom will blow right past your first attempt to hang up.
Leaving The Car
After getting off the phone, you can attempt to leave the car, but youcan’t exit until you turn the engine off. The push-to-start button is on theright side of the steering wheel.
After exiting the car, you’ll get a brief flashback to Swann running through the woods, with the voices of her friends yelling in the background. You’ll fall and will stay looking at the ground until youpick up Swann’s flashlight. This is locateddown and to the right.
