Tourism inElinworks very differently to most of the other mechanics. No amount of level grinding is able to save a failing theme park, so instead you need to carefully navigate the specific mechanics around tourism. Your crafting and combat skills will still be put to the test but are not enough by themselves.
Whether you’re aiming to make a little extra income from your base by taking guest lodgers, or you want to build a resort town to rival Port Kapul, this guide will cover the mechanics and how to get the most from them, along with how to visit tourist maps made by other players.

How To Get Tourists
TheOpen For Business policy can be applied at a home boardto start accepting tourists into your town. They’ll visit for a few days, wander around and give you money for the privilege.
Tourists will not go through your public chests, so don’t worry about needing to change any of your storage settings.

There are a few things you’ll want to check before setting a map to accept tourists:
How To Raise Tourism Value
Checking the home board andhovering over your property’s worth will show you the tourism value of the land. This is how popular your town is as a destination and is calculated differently to the land value.
There are an assortment of items that can be found or crafted to improve tourism value. For best results, you’ll want to use all of them at once.

Any furniture that doesn’texplicitly state it improves tourismvalue won’t help you here: anewspaperhas more tourism value than a display case containing a legendary weapon.
Posters, Banners and Newspapers

Crafted using a writing tool
Low
Crafting your posters out of cashmere gives them avalue multiplier that also improves their tourism value. If you have a golden snow putit you’re able to collect golden wool for even better posters.
Won in the Fortune Drum Raffle
Very High
In the early game you’ll have a lot ofraffle tickets from trying out new crafting recipes. You can find a raffle in the nearby Tinker’s Camp.
Bought Or Stolen

High
You can collect these with furniture tickets, but theirlight weight also makes it very easy to pickpocket them.
Felmara’s Quest
This special set of paintings is produced by the artist Felmara if you bring him sketches. He will sellduplicates of any unlocked painting in his store.
Casino, Little Garden
Medium
These miniatures have a lot of different types that can add up to a decent total. Many of them are easter eggsreferencing other games.
Figures, Cards And Statues

Dropped by monsters
Crafted at sculpting table
Variable
Figures and cards are common monster drops. The cards can beadded to your codex to improve drop ratesand unlock bestiary entries. The figure has no use beyond tourism.
Unique story bosses are guaranteed to drop their card and statue, and havea much higher tourism value than common enemies.
Duplicate items do not improve tourism value, but there isn’t an easy way to check for duplicates outside placing the item down and seeing if the tourism value changes. You can pin the tourism value to the status bar to speed up the process.
You cannot place multiple tourism items in the same tile or their points won’t be counted. This rule won’t appear often but doesprevent you from spacing posters too closelyor stacking all your statues on top of each other.
There are also non-item ways of improving your tourism value. These work as a multiplier on your existing score, so are great once you’ve got an large collection of tourist items.
How To Use Sculpting To Improve Tourism
The biggest source of tourism value is from figures, since every creature has one and they are impacted by item quality and material. The wooden figures dropped by enemies can’t compare to the level reached if you craft your own statues of defeated foes. Sculpting follows a few rules that you’ll want to account for:
If you want to make all the best sculptures, you’ll need to go around the map andkill unique characters so you can make statues of them later. They’ll respawn after a few days and you can earn back the lost karma by questing as long as you pace yourself.
Unique characters are guaranteed to drop their card when killed. This makes it easy to check which characters you’re able to make sculptures of. Killing them is also a good way of getting rare items and artifacts. The unique itemEfrond’s Guitar is only available by commiting regicide.
The other way to get a good sculpture is to use a material hammer on the wooden figure dropped from killing them. These are rare so should be used very sparingly and only on godly quality figures. Most statues can be crafted at godly quality once you’ve got a sculpting skill in the high double digits. The singular exception is Innos Tur’as.
Innos Tur’as has astatue tall enough to clip through most roofs.Put him outside or give your art gallery a very tall ceiling.
Sculptures have higher tourism value depending on the materials. Higher quality materials give better statues.
The exact tourism value of an item has to be found indirectly by seeing how your tourism score changes when placing it. You can alsouse UI mods to check it directly in the inventory, which helps if you have tourism multipliers that obscure the exact number.
How To Make Money From Tourists
Tourism is a nice way of making money since it doesn’t require any input once you’ve got the right policies in place, some decorations and good lodgings. To get passive income from your tourists, look for policies such as platinum ticket, luxury suite and traveler’s inn. These increase the amount of money tourists pay for room and board, so they don’t require any additional input.
Tourism income is taxed heavily, so you shoulduse one of your three tax-free lands. If you have less than three territories, this is on by default.
In order to make ludicrous amounts of money off your tourists, you need toopen a gift shop and sell merchandise. The ‘for sale’ tag can be crafted at a sign workshop and lets you designate a container as a shop for tourists. It will sell items to tourists until the container is empty.
Placing the sale tag inside the container afterwards ensures the contents are always for sale as the tag cannot be sold, and the container will never fully empty.
There are policies that increase the selling price of items, letting you make more profit but causing your stock to sell more slowly. Combine them with theCelebrity’s Heaven policy, which will increase the number of wealthy tourists. Some high rollers will spend several thousand oren on godly quality gold statues of boss enemies, but you can expect that type of stock to stay in storage for a long time until the perfect buyer arrives.
For stocking your store, there are a few reliable options for making good money. One of the strongest options is using the restaurant license policy to overcharge on alcohol. You only need a brewery barrel to get started.
The sale tagcannot be used on the expandable containersfrom Miral and Garokk, so you’ll need to be considerate of how much space your store takes. The largest single container is the store wagons sold by Nino and they also look appropriate.
Different types of shops have their own advantages. You can do as many as you like at once, but some require policies that will take up your admin points.
Sculpting table
Sculpting skill
Its easy to sell the duplicates from your previous sculpting work, or the ones without a good quality modifier.
Carpentry table
Carpentry, farming, ranching skills
This one furniture item has an abnormally high selling price and caninherit price modifiers from the wood or the textiles used to craft it.
Adventuring
None
you’re able to set the chest to public, allowing your villagers to use equipment from the chest and then any leftovers will be sold.
Cooking Stations
Cooking Skill, refrigeration
This is a good way to earn back the costs of grinding thecooking skill. Cooked items can be staked more easily than equipment or furniture.
Items sold through your gift shop will have ahigher profit margin than the shipping chestbut do not reward gold bars.
How To Publish Maps And Visit Other Players' Bases
Tourism doesn’t have to be exclusive to NPCs. If you want to play as a tourist, you canvisit other people’s bases using a moongate sold at the tinkerer’s camp. This will take you to another player’s published map or allow you topublish your own at the hearthstone.
You cannot publish your map online until it reaches the top 100 in property value. This is tracked separately from tourism value but appears in the same place on the home board.
The easiest way to rapidly shoot up in property value is tolay down rare furniture such as body pillowsfrom Little Garden or the Casino.
Visiting other published maps can benefit your own game. It’s a good way of learning what progression markers you can aim for next:
Because moongate maps are regenerated whenever you enter, if you get killed trying to steal from oneyou will not be able to retrieve any dropped money.
The local publishing option at your hearthstone will add a copy of your map to your list of saved destinations in the Starseeker’s Portal. This can be used toshare the map privately with friends or to duplicate materials:
Not everything in the portal version of your world will be duplicated faithfully. Crops won’t have any enhancement levels and livestock won’t grow fur.
Stealing from your own duplicate is also useful for some material conversion tricks.Disassembling statues gives logsinstead of stone or ingots, letting you convert any gemstone or metal into a log for crafting purposes.
