Summary

Last week,Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket’slatest expansion, Space-Time Smackdown, was released. It brought with it a seismic shift to the meta, and early signs looked like a deck containing the duo ofDarkrai ex and Weavile ex would become dominant.

At least part of that prophecy has proven true, with a recent tournament seeing seven of the top eight spots taken up by Darkrai ex decks—just ones that included a Pokemon other than Weavile.

Darkrai ex And Magnezone Deck Runs Rampant In Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket Tournament

Darkrai ex and Weavile ex seemed to complement each other perfectly in the early hours of the new Space-Time Smackdown meta. It didn’t take long for players to find an alternative, more viable solution, though, with the set’s new Magnezone card coming up trumps.

An ideal run with the deck sees theever-annoying Druddigonstart in the active spot, potentially with a Rocky Helmet on. With a Darkrai ex on the bench, players can deal up to 60 damage each turn without attacking, provided Druddigon is attacked by the opposition.

Despite only running Dark-type energies, players are using Magneton’s Volt Charge ability to stack Electric-type energies to it before evolving it to Magnezone. After a few turns, they have two Pokemon, Magnezone and Darkrai ex, ready to come out and sweep.

The deck has proven so successful that in the recentHoogland and Spragels Open event, it took the first, second, third, fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth places.

While one tournament may seem like a small sample size,Limitless TCG, a website that tracks deck usage in various TCGs, has found that the Darkrai ex and Magnezone deck has already propelled itself to second place in the charts, with 7.62 percent of players using it. Only Palkia ex and Vaporeon have more players, seeing 0.01 percent more decks focused on the pair.

According to Limitless, Darkrai ex and Weavile ex are now the fourth most popular, with 5.37 percent of players using them, meaning that almost 13 percent of players are using one of the two Darkrai ex deck. It comes as little surprise either, as Limitless is reporting that Darkrai and Magnezone have a win rate of 60.47 percent, by far the highest of any deck in the game.
