Summary

Earlier this week, rumors of aDevil May Cryremake being in development started floating around the internet. While it’s not too hard to believe,as we already know that Capcom loves a remake, the source of these rumors wasn’t particularly credible. That doesn’t mean it isn’t happening though, and these rumors seemingly brought attention to some comments made by Vergil voice actor Dan Southworth back in 2024.

First shared by Twitter user GamesLover, duringa panel that was held at Power Morphicon in 2024for Devil May Cry’s 25th anniversary, Southworth began talking about a project that he had recently finished recording for, one in which they requested that he do his “younger” Vergil voice from 2004.

Devil May Cry Remake Rumors Heat Up Over Vergil Voice Actor Comments

“In fact I just finished a video game two weeks ago,” says Southworth. “They hired me to play this character. I don’t want to say any titles or anything because I’m known for spilling the beans, but they asked me to do my voice the way it was back in 2004. ‘Can you do the younger Vergil version’, so that was challenging.”

Of course, Southworth could be talking about a game from a completely different franchise that just liked how his young Vergil voice sounded back then, but the only games of note he’s voiced for outside of Devil May Cry areMirror’s Edge CatalystandWolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. I highly doubt we’re getting new games from those franchises any time soon.

Coupled with the recent remake rumors, and claims thatFortnite is about to get a Devil May Cry crossover, it seems as though all signs are pointing towards this thing being real. We also know that the future of Devil may Cry is up in the air at the moment, after series director Hideaki Itsuno left Capcom last year, so it’s possible a remake could be the way to go to keep Devil May Cry relevant for now.

In fact, we may not actually be waiting that long for an official announcement. There are multiple big showcases reportedly taking place in the next couple of months, including a PlayStation State of Play later this month, during the week of Valentine’s Day. That would be the perfect place for Capcom to announce a Devil May Cry remake, so if this thing is real, I’d bet my house on it being there.
