Summary
Last month,Dynasty Warriors: Originskicked off whatis shaping to be a strong year for video games with its release. It immediately becamethe franchise’s single highest-rated game, as well asits single biggest player count.
That said, there was just one problem — the NPCs talked way too much. Now,via Patch 1.0003, Koei Tecmo is letting players mute the NPCs right in their tracks.Per the patch notes, players can make the rumors that appear in the overworld appear either less frequently or mute them altogether.
“Added Rumor Settings to the Configuration menu. These new settings allow you to make the rumors that play automatically when on the World Map occur less frequently or make them play without sound,” the patch notes described.
“Thank God I can finally turn off the **** NPCs keep saying in the overworld!“one user exclaimed in the Dynasty Warriors subreddit. Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that a game has been patched to let players mute annoying dialogue.
Please Stop Talking So Much
Famously, whenGod of War Ragnaröklaunched onPClast year,it bundled in a “Reduced Puzzle Hints” feature that essentially let players mute Atreus and Freya. At the time,it was being touted as a PC-exclusive feature before making its way to consoles.
Before that,Horizon Forbidden Westwas patchedso that Aloy wouldn’t mention her stash so often, something Guerrilla even acknowledged in the patch notes. Elsewhere,Super Mario Wonder let players mute the talking flowers from the start. It’s worth notingthat the flower will tell you off if you decide to mute it. While the patches are all welcomed solutions, perhaps a better solution would be to stop making annoying companions in the first place.
