Just like every single-player game,Avowedalso has a ton of options for you when you’re starting your playthrough to make sure all the settings are handled beforehand and you can fully immerse yourself once you begin your journey. A lot of these options include various accessibility features.

However, one of the most important settings you’ll see during this will be difficulty. The game doesn’t have an extensive system to customize your difficulty, but you can select the best one out of the options you get.

Every Difficulty In Avowed, Explained

As soon as you click the ‘New Game’ button in Avowed, you’ll get a big screen with a bunch of tabs, and most of them will allow you to customize different aspects of your character. Unfortunately, you won’t see the same level of detail and customization for the game’s difficulty.

Once you’re done creating your character, selecting your background, anddistributing your attribute points, you’llget to the final tab where you’re able to select one of these five difficulties:

Avowed setting to change difficulty mid-game.

Story Time

This is the easiest difficulty in the game, and with it,you won’t even have to worry about the combat. Even if you don’t have the right level of gear for the fight, you’ll be dealing a good chunk of damage.

To put it in perspective, you can easily deal nearly half of the boss' HP as damageif you have relatively strong gear for the fight. The damage you take will also be very less.

Easy

Moving on to the second difficulty, things will still stay relatively easy here, especially if you’ve played any action game before. The enemies still take a big chunk of damage while dealing little damage to you.

As long as you’re keeping your gear on the same tier as the enemies, your battles will go without a hitch, even if you’re fighting a boss.

Normal

The third difficulty is where things start getting a little tough. This difficulty not only decreases the overall damage you deal to the HP bars substantially, butalso boosts the damage taken quite significantly.

If you don’t have your armor on the same tier as the enemies, there will besome attacks that will reduce half of your HP bar by themselves. You’ll have to pay attention to gear upgrades for this one.

Hard

While you might not notice the difference between hard and normal difficulty at the start, it will become a lotmore evident as you progress through the game. Hard difficulty expects you to know what you’re doing.

This essentially means that you’ll have to pay a lot of attention to your builds. If you’re planning to switch your main weapons, you’ll also have to reset your attributes and abilities accordingly.

Path of the Damned

Finally, the Path of the Damned difficulty is where you’ll have a hard time even if you have the best possible build for your level. You’llhave to pay special attention to all combat mechanicsif you want to succeed here.

If you take any damage from enemies, especially bosses, even if you have the recommended gear for the fight, you’ll still take a significant amount of damage.

As you’d expect, thenormal difficulty is the best one to have a balanced gameplaywhere things don’t feel too easy.

You might get defeated in battle every now and then with this difficulty, whichkeeps you wanting to make your build better.

Can You Change Difficulty Mid-Game?

Thankfully, the developers have allowed you to switch the difficulty of your game at any point, which makes things a lot easier. To do this, you simply have to go tosettings in the main menu, then game settings, and you’ll see the difficulty optionat the top.

This allows you to start your game on a high difficulty just so you’re able to test the waters, and if you have aparticularly difficult combat experiencethat you just want to get past, you can lower the difficulty and beat it easily.
