Summary
Spider-Manhas gained yet another animated series in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. In a story that feels like a what-if scenario based on the MCU’s Spider-Man, it also takes a lot of creative liberties in it, from where the spider comes from to Peter’s friends' circle in high school.
Thus, this version of the story comes different versions of key characters, along with some folks that don’t usually appear in Spider-Man stories. And, as it’s common with animated shows, it always sparks some curiosity about who is the voice behind the characters we’re seeing, and we’re here to help you with your curiosity.
12Hudson Thames
As Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Hudson Thamesreprises his role as Spider-Man, as he’s also the voice behind the character in the What If series, where he fought a group of zombies there with other heroes. This isn’t the same iteration of the character, though, as he’s a younger version of Pete here.
Hudson does a good job between both personas. His quips and humor as Spider-Man are a great standout in his portrayal, and all that while he still sounds young enough to fit the character.
11Kari Wahlgren
As May Parker
Peter wouldn’t have gone as far as he does in the superhero business if it weren’t for the amazing role model that he has in his life. Thus, it’s not a Spider-Man story without Aunt May, played byKari Wahlgren.
Kari is no stranger to us nerds, thanks to her roles as Kitana and Milena in Mortal Kombat 11 and 1, Evelyn Parker in Cyberpunk 2077, Diane Sanchez in Rick And Morty, among many other roles.
10Colman Domingo
As Norman Osborn
The show gives us a new version of Norman, who becomes a mentor figure to Spider-Man, similar to how Iron Man is in the MCU. Still, we know how evil Norman usually is, meaning this relationship will be interesting to see on the show.
Norman is voiced by the amazingColman Domingo, who has been in Fear The Walking Dead, Lincoln, and was even the voice of Batman in a few podcast audio series.
9Zeno Robinson
As Harry Osborn
If we’re having Norman Osborn in this MCU-adjacent universe, then we might as well have Harry Osborn, too, brought to life byZeno Robinson, known for his work in Bleach: Thousand Year War, the Harley Quinn series, and Starfield, among many other things.
The way his relationship with Peter starts is quite unique as far as Spider-Man stories go, and he is a great supporting character throughout the story.
8Grace Song
As Nico Minoru
The writers took a lot of liberties with Pete’s friends, and the first difference you’ll notice is the presence ofNico Minoru, usually part of the Runaways, portrayed byGrace Song. She’s also known for her powers, as the character is a witch in the comics, and she is another great supporting character due to how her relationship with Peter develops.
Most of Grace’s work comes from TV series, but none of them are game-related or something. She’s been in movies like Straight Up and shows like The Premise.
7Cathy Ang
As Pearl Pangan
Pearl is also a relatively random choice here, as she’s the hero Wave and not a character that relates to Spider-Man in their stories. Still, she’s here as a student at the same school as Peter (who has a crush on her), has no powers of her own, and she’s portrayed byCathy Ang.
Cathy has recently been in Tales of the Empire, so this isn’t her first rodeo with Disney. She’s also been in the Harley Quinn show, though just for one episode, and other TV series and movies, such as Over The Moon.
6Eugene Byrd
As Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone
Of all the character changes, Lonnie Lincoln is the most significant one here. Lonnie is the villain Tombstone, who’s usually an adult, and though he’s always been a black man, he’s often portrayed as having albinism. However, here, he’s young and a veteran at Peter’s school, is not albino, and he’s a pretty chill guy.
This version of Lonnie is quite distinct, andEugene Byrd’sportrayal of the character is wonderful, making us amazed by his character’s arc throughout the show. He’s been in games such as Saints Row, Gears of War 4 and 5, and in shows like Arrow.
5Hugh Dancy
As Otto Octavius/Doctor Octopus
From Law & Order, Hannibal, and, funnily enough, Robot Chicken, since he played Daredevil over there, we haveHugh Dancyportraying a distinct and fun version of Doctor Otto Octavius here in the show.
Along with a look that’s extremely close to the comics, his voice and personality stand out considerably, showing how well Hugh nailed the role.
4Jonathan Medina
As Mac Gargan/Scorpion
Another great villain from this show is Mac Gargan, as he’s one of the most terrifying villains this Peter faces throughout the season. Scorpion is angry, menacing, and a big threat to our araña, andJonathan Medinashines in portraying Mac here.
As far as games go, Medina only has Telling Lies as part of his portfolio, but he’s been in many shows and movies, such as For All Mankind, The Purge, and Primo.
3Robin Atkin Downes
As Doctor Strange
In this universe, we have a rather strange origin for Peter’s powers. Doctor Stephen Strange, played byRobin Atkin Downes, crashes the party here due to a fightagainst a symbiote, and his presence brings the special spider that creates Spider-Man.
Though his appearance is more of a unique way to give Peter an origin, it was fun to see him here, and he was well played by Robin, who is also Emperor Nefarious in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Scarecrow in Batman: The Long Halloween and Davy Jones in games such as Disney Speedstorm and Kingdom Hearts 3.
