Summary
Fable 4, which was first announced back in 2020 by the award-winningForza Horizondeveloper Playground Games, has officially been delayed.
As reported byWindows Central, Xbox Game Studios lead Craig Duncan revealed on the official Xbox Podcast that it will release sometime next year instead.

“We’re really excited about [Fable’s] progress and where Playground Games are,” Duncan explained. “We previously announced [that] Fable [would launch in] 2025. We are actually going to give Fable more time. It’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want is to assure people that it’s definitely worth the wait.”
Xbox Also Shared Some New Fable Footage
While Fable 4 has been delayed, it’s not all bad news. We got some brand-new footage during the podcast (sorry, listeners), giving us a better glimpse at how Playground’s take on Albion is coming along.
Insiders claimed back in December thatFable 4 might come to PS5 due to its “monstrously expensive” budget.

Footage played over the top of Duncan’s conversation with host Tina Amini shows the player character walking through an enormous, lavish city, galloping through an open forest, hurling fireballs at monsters, cooking some delicious-looking sausages over a bear trap, and — thank Skorm — kicking a chicken into orbit.
Duncan didn’t want to give too much away, but he did reveal that he had been hands-on with the game, fighting a boss and trying out the magic and combat. He says that Fable 4 “felt amazing” and “plays great”. While there have been some concerns about this long-in-the-tooth sequel, especially without series creator Lionhead at the helm, Duncan also assures that there are “no bigger fans of Fable as a franchise than the Playground team that are making it.”
Just think of the visuals of what you expect of Playground Games, plus amazing gameplay, British humour, Playground’s version of Albion — inspired by what’s gone before with the franchise.
Even without the long-awaited return to Fable, 2025 is still stacked with RPGs. Just two months into the year and we’ve been enjoying the feast that isAvowed,Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, andKingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but we also haveRise of the Ronin,Borderlands 4, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2,Elden Ring Nightreign, andThe Outer Worlds 2yet to come.
