Fallouthas an incredibly ambitious modding community. There are ground-up remakes of the classic games,ambitious spin-offsthat even launched on GOG, and now… a remaster ofNew VegasinThe Sims 2. It makes no damn sense. Compels me though.
Thankfully, this project has its own dedicated subreddit whereu/FalloutPropMaster explains all; “I’ve gotten impatient waiting for a remastered version of Fallout: New Vegas. My dream is to have a remaster that also allows us to revisit some cut content that existed during the in-house beta of Fallout: New Vegas (which I had the rare opportunity of being able to play back in early 2010; long story).
The project lead played a ghoul in the Fallout fan film.
“After finding a few uploads by user ‘lilipad’ on ModTheSims of a couple of casinos on the New Vegas Strip for The Sims 2, it inspired me to try and remake New Vegas in The Sims 2 to the best of my abilities. I have modded Fallout 3 and New Vegas in the past, but never The Sims, so I will also take this opportunity to learn.”
They aren’t just remaking New Vegas landmarks and characters in The Sims 2 (which in itself is still impressive). They’re also using several toolkits like Milkshape, FOMM, Blender, and Nifscope to implement props, building materials, armour, clothing, ghouls, and even a new UI that better matchesthe original Fallout games, all in a bid to capture the aesthetic of Obsidian’s iconic RPG.
They also plan to import Nightkin textures as a clothing item.
Right now, they’re plotting out the map in one of The Sims 2’s empty neighbourhoods, but they’re also open to creating a wholly custom map in Sim City that better reflects the real New Vegas.
Grid by grid, they’re transforming this casual life simulator into a post-apocalyptic western. But it probably won’t play like Fallout — this is still The Sims we’re talking about, and the revamped UI includes the same needs bars as the base game.
Instead, it looks like we’ll be venturing back to New Vegas from a new perspective, one where we get to control our favourite characters and their every whim.Everywhim. So, get ready to take Mr House on a romantic, radioactive, lakeside date, or maybe you may smooch Lily by the nuclear waste while you trap Benny in a Vault pool without a ladder. Sul sul, the game was rigged from the start.
