Over a decade after its launch, Ubisoft has finally added achievements toFar Cry 3on Steam.
There are 44 in total to earn, as the six co-op achievements corresponding to the six co-op maps have been removed. It’s unclear if they’ll be added later; a blog post on the Steam page revealed that Ubisoft “encountered sync issues with multiplayer achievements” for those who had already unlocked them via Connect, and that it’s “working on fixing the issue”.
However, the servers closed in 2024, so getting the co-op achievements on Ubisoft Connect requires a tedious, unofficial workaround. As broken down bySteam user Juansviin their walkthrough, you need to download a mod to play the co-op missions offline, which sort of defeats the point.
Far Cry 4 Just Got Achievements, Too
At the end of last year, Ubisoft also added achievements to severalAssassin’s Creedgames on Steam, including Revelations, Black Flag, Syndicate, and Unity. And just a day before the Far Cry 3 update, it did the same for Far Cry 4.
This appears to be part of a larger initiative to add the Connect achievements to Steam, which is a pretty enticing reason to go back to some of Ubisoft’s classics. There’s no roadmap as to what games are getting this treatment, or when, and it all appears pretty random from an outside point of view, but fans are throwing out their hopes for future updates.
Popular picks include theWatch Dogsseries,The Division, Far Cry Primal and Blood Dragon, as well asthe Rayman games. Not every Assassin’s Creed has achievements, either. While Revelations now has 48 achievements ready to unlock, bizarrely, AC2 and Brotherhood don’t have any yet, and neither does Assassin’s Creed 3. But with the steady rollout of these updates, it’s only a matter of time.
It’s clear that Ubisoft is embracing Valve’s storefront more openly. WhenAssassin’s Creed Shadows finally launches later this year in March, it will release on Steam day one, setting a new precedent for future releases.
That’s a major shift in strategy given that Ubisoft started to launch its games on EGS exclusively in 2019 due to its frustration withValve’s “unrealistic” 30 percent cut on all sales. As recently as last year, we saw this in action withStar Wars Outlaws, which launched on Steam months after other storefronts. Achievements seem to be another key part of that return to the platform, embedding its games in Valve’s ecosystem more directly.
