Summary

Not even one year after beginning the hiring process for a new multiplayer FPS, developerRespawn Entertainmenthas reportedly canceled the project. It is the second such project to be canceled, with a Star Wars first-person shooter centered around The Mandalorian also getting axed last February.

Information about the now-canceled projectcomes by way of Insider Gaming, citinga LinkedIn post from Emilee Evans, a former production coordinator at the studio.

In a post shared on Wednesday, Evans notes that an “unannounced incubation project I was a part of for the past year was canceled this week.” That incubation project was one that Respawn had begun work on a little less than a year ago.

The Theme Of The Project Was Unknown

As eXputer reported in May 2024, a Game Design Director was being hired to join Respawn’s incubation team. Specifically, the candidate was expected to have “significant professional experience designing multiplayer FPS experiences.”

While many fans would love to assume that the unannounced project was a third Titanfall game, it was ultimately unclear what the game was. That said, it could’ve been a Titanfall game,as reliable insider Jeff Grubb had reported that the team was working on another entry in the franchise, though it wouldn’t directly be “Titanfall 3,” but rather set in the same universe.

While it’s disheartening to see two back-to-back cancelations, Respawn is still regularly churning out content for Apex Legends. The team is also seeminglystill tasked with publishing a Star Wars strategy game, as well asan original IP from Steve Fukuda. That’s also not to make mention ofongoing work on Star Wars Jedi’s “final chapter.“Still, it’s worth wondering just what that multiplayer title could have been.
