Summary
Yesterday, Twitter user Detective Seeds claimed thatthe rumoured Gears of War remastered collectionwould be released in mid-August, but without multiplayer PvP. Since they don’t have a history of leaking, and provided no concrete proof, fans were understandably skeptical.
So, they asked reputable leakerJez Cordenif he could corroborateDetective Seed’s claims. Sure enough, “Co-op, but not PvP, is what I heard”.

This is basically like if [the Master Chief Collection] launched without PvP. Actually, criminal —u/cydoz.
It’s unclear why Microsoft would ax the popular PvP component from the original Gears of War games, but some speculate that it might be because ofthe upcoming prequel E-Day, which is reportedly launching next year. “It would last too long and the hardcore players, the ones most likely to buy skins/DLC, won’t move to E-Day when it launches,” suggested u/bryanl12.

However, it’s worth noting thatMass Effect Legendary Editionalso cut multiplayer, and it was because of the sheer scope of remastering an entire trilogy. As project director Mac Walters explained, “Our focus really was on the singleplayer experience and at some point, we had to just draw the line […] The overall ME LE is a better representation of the original trilogy because we’re able to focus on those singleplayer elements.”
Horde Mode Is Up In The Air Right Now
If you haven’t played Gears of War 2, it features a round-based arcade mode where you have to survive against 50 waves of the Locust Horde. With each wave, enemies grow stronger, while dead teammates respawn — think of it likeCall of DutyZombies, but with COG soldiers.
The mode can be played across any multiplayer map, but only with other players, not AI bots.
With PvP being cut, fans are worried that Horde might also be left behind. Unfortunately, Corden has no words of reassurance just yet. Asked if it will return, he said, “I hope so, but [I’m] not sure. I’m double checking all of this at the moment.”
At the very least, co-op is reportedly returning. And if Detective Seed is also right about the release date, then we can expect the collection to launch in just a few months. But gutting PvP is already proving a dealbreaker for some.
