Summary

It won’t be too long before gamers will be able to jump back into the world ofGex, asthe previously announced Gex Trilogy, which will combine all three Gex games in one package, has been given a Summer 2025 release. The game, which will be published by Limited Run Games andalso see a physical release, received a new trailer on Thursday, featuring a fresh look at gameplay.

While “Summer 2025” is still a little bit vague, it at least gives fans a more narrow window for when they’ll get to hear the wisecracking gecko spill all of his hottest television takes. When it does release, it’ll bundle Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko in one file with a number of enhancements.

It’s Tail Time

Making use of Limited Run Games' proprietary Carbon Engine, which has been used to revitalize a number of classic titles, including the likes of Tomba and Shantae, the trilogy will include many of the features that classic game compilations have come to make use of, such as save states and rewinding.

For Trophy and Achievement hunters, there will be those digital collectibles to hunt. A press release for the trilogy also states that players will have access to a music player to listen to the game’s many tunes, along with art and promo materials via a viewer. There will even be an interview with Gex’s voice actor, Dana Gould.

Gex Is A Cult Classic

Originally released in the mid 1990s byCrystal Dynamics, the same studio of Tomb Raider fame, it’s a platformer starring a talking gecko who has to take down Rez, an evil being hellbent on taking over the “Media Dimension,” or the place where movies and TV shows exist.

Butwhile other mascots of the time eventually made their way back into pop culture, Gex has largely been left on the sidelines. Whether that’s due to some of the more crude humor or the fact that the series revels in somewhat outdated satire, Gex has been the subject of gaming “wishlists,” as well asspeculation stemming from a 2022 trademark filing. Now, the gecko will get his day in the sun once more. If only Cool Spot could get the same love.
