Memory of the Deep is one of the Emerald Stair side quests you can find inAvowed. The quest has various outcomes and can affect the fate of a certain NPC. So, you’ll want to be really careful with your choices here.
This guide covers how to start the quest, where to find the Mysterious Meteorite, and whether you should give it to Josep Abaccio or the Giftbearer. Each decision comes with different rewards. So, you’ll also learn what to expect and decide what’s best for your journey.

How To Start Memory Of The Deep
There aretwo ways to start Memory of the Deepin Avowed: Speak with either Josep Abaccio or the Giftbearer. You’ll find Josep Abaccio at the Coastal Farms, southwest of the Farmer’s Market Beacon, near the docks.
You can spot him standing near his purple-glowing lamps and machines. Talk to him to learn about his issue with runaway revenants. He’ll task you with retrieving theMysterious Meteorite, which attracts revenants to Lake Lacuna. Before leaving, check the wooden cart nearby to find a Lockbox. Loot it.

Activate the Docks Beacon. It’ll be useful later when turning in the quest, as it’s close to both NPCs.
Another way to start Memory of the Deep is byspeaking with Ondra’s servant, the Giftbearer, near Lake Lacuna.

You’ll see the lost revenants standing or lying around near the lake, but they won’t attack you. You can also finda note on one of the revenants indicating that it belongs to Abaccio.
Talking to the Giftbearer reveals that the Mysterious Meteorite at the lake’s bottom is actuallya shattered moon fragment of Ionni Brathr. Its energy is what attracts the revenants here.

You need to speak with Josep Abaccio no matter what if you want to unlock more choices and the chance to get his reward.
Get The Mysterious Meteorite
The Mysterious Meteorite is in a hole at the bottom of Lake Lacuna, nestled among tree roots and mushrooms. It’s a deep dive, somake sure you’re positioned in the middle of the lakebefore dropping down.
You’ll also see a Health Potion in the same hole, but grabbing both at once might be risky. You should resurface for air before diving backfor the potion to avoid unnecessary damage. After all, you’ll need decent HP for what’s happening next.

Once you emerge with the moon rock, the previously docile revenants will turn hostile, and a bunch of Skeletons will soon join the fight. Prioritize taking down the Decaying Skeleton Priest first to prevent it from healing the others, then eliminate the Skeleton Wizard to avoid its dangerous ice projectiles, which can seriously hurt and slow your movement.
The Giftbearer will no longer be at Lake Lacuna. So, after clearing the area, teleport back to the Docks Beaconto turn in the quest.

Who To Give The Meteorite To?
Your decision comes down to what you prioritize in your run.If you want to keep everyone alive and safe, give the Meteorite to the Giftbearer. If you prefer a better reward, hand it over to Josep Abaccio instead.
Give The Meteorite To The Giftbearer
If you decide to give the Giftbearer the moon stone, you’re able to find him near the docks. Giving him the Meteorite will net you550 gold. However, that’s not the only reward you’ll receive from the Giftbearer.
After resting, return to the docksnear Coastal Farms, where the Giftbearer was. You’ll find theStatuette of Lament—a Trinket shaped like a crying woman. Wearing itincreases your underwater breath duration, making it incredibly useful for exploring water areas and uncovering treasures in Avowed.

If you lie to the Giftbearer and claim you no longer have the Meteorite, he will respond by saying he will find it no matter what. However, you won’t be able to talk with him anymore after this. This means you can’t give him the Meteorite later, locking yourself out of his reward.
Give The Meteorite To Josep Abaccio
If you decide to give Josep the moon rock,he’ll give you theChanter’s Panpipes, which allows you to summon a Phantomto fight alongside you in battles. This is especially useful in fights where your party is overwhelmed by enemies.
However, since the Meteorite makes revenants violent,Josep will eventually be killed by his own creations. If you return to his farm after resting, you’ll find his corpse surrounded by dead revenants.
you may alsopersuade Josep to abandon the Meteorite, convincing him it’s too dangerous. While this saves his life, it won’t complete the quest or grant any rewards.
you may still change your decision later by speaking to him again. Or, you can be a nice Envoy and give the Meteorite to the Giftbearer.
Lying to Josep and telling him nothing happened at the lake will have no serious consequences.
