Summary

A senior analyst has shared his thoughts onGrand Theft Auto 6potentially being delayed out of 2025 and said that it has the capability to “tank” studios that are holding releases back in anticipation.

We’re only a few months into 2025, but it’s already shaping up to be an incredibly stacked year for gaming, as proven byKingdom Come: Deliverance 2,Monster Hunter Wilds, and evenAssassin’s Creed Shadows. While theSwitch 2 is on everyone’s mind as something to look forward to, there’s one beast that’s even more anticipated -GTA 6.

GTA 6

GTA is such a big deal in the gaming industry for both hardcore and casual gamers that its release is not only massively awaited, but alsofrankly feared by a lot of studios that know how much air the return to Vice City is going to take in the room. That importance has made the wait for GTA 6 pretty tense, especially for developers holding out for a release date confirmation.

GTA 6 Getting Delayed Could Have A Big Knock-On Effect On Developers

In the past, it’s been claimed that a lot of gaming studios arewaiting to see when Rockstar is going to launch GTA 6 to make sure that their own titles aren’t going to be swallowed up by it. That might seem simple consideringTake-Two has claimed on numerous occasions that it’s still planned to release this year, but with a release date still unconfirmed and a delay possible, it’s a major point of fear for developers right now.

As pointed out by Insider Gamingandoriginally reported by PC Gamer, Newzoo analyst Ben Foster recently shared his thoughts on GTA 6 potentially being delayed out of 2025 while attendingGDC. Foster said that any company that’s waiting for GTA 6’s release and has purposefully held games back, has the potential of being “tanked” if GTA 6 suddenly gets delayed after months of assuming it’d launch in 2025.

If you’re a game company who’s holding its breath waiting for GTA 6 to get out, and then it gets delayed by three, four, five, six months, what do you do? You either have to be able to launch into that big black hole that’s been left open now, or you have to extend your run rate by an additional six months – I’m certain some companies are going to tank as a result of that, right? - Ben Foster

We don’t know just how many studios have games planned for launch later this year that are being held back with the assumption that GTA 6 launches by the end of 2025, but it’s likely alot. While Grand Theft Auto 6 being delayed would leave a massive gap for some titles, the knock-on effect of not having time to market the games does seem like it’d spell trouble for a lot of the industry.
