Summary

Hades 2’s recently released Warsong update has replaced a bunch of placeholder art in the game, including one that gives us a new look at our boy, Zagreus.

From the moment Hades 2 was first revealed to have a brand new protagonistin the form of Melinoe, Zagreus' sister, fans of the first game have had one big question -where the heck is our beloved boy, Zag? That question was quickly and sadly answered when the game launched in early access, but it hasn’t stopped us all from hoping he’d make a comeback.

After two major updates,we still haven’t had aproperlook at Zagreus in-game outside of some art and abrief shot of him being frozen in time by Chronos, but it does seem like Supergiant is ramping up to his eventual return. Which brings us to a new reference to him that’s beenfound in the Warsong update.

Hades 2’s Latest Update Has A Nice Nod To Zagreus

One of the big new features of Hades 2 as a whole is its introduction of Arcana cards, which basically let the player have more control over their buffs instead of static increases. These cards have always had descriptions, but most of them just had placeholder art instead of anything distinct, something that’s changed with the Warsong update.

Since launch, one of Hades 2’s Arcana cards,The Wayward Son, has clearly meant to be referencing Zagreus. We said as much last year, as the description reads, “Even the Underworld struggled to contain him, such was his lust for life”. That card now has its own artwork, which confirms that it was to do with Zag all along.

The image, which was fittingly shared by Twitter user z4greusbff, shows Zag with his arms extended and somewhere between life and death, referencing his attempts to escape the Underworld in Hades. The design for Zag is also a new one, as he’s shirtless with a long bit of cloth around his waist and appears to look a little older.

Interestingly, the design used in the Arcana card isdifferent from the glimpse of Zag we got when the game first released. He does at least look older in both.

It’s not the biggest thing to go off of, but considering how shrouded in mystery Zag’s whereabouts have been since Hades 2 launched in early access, it is a sign that we might see him in the near future. Here’s hoping that Hades 2’s next update finally brings him back for good.
