Summary
Monster Hunter Wildsfeatures a variety of tough and challenging monsters that can give Hunters a tough time to defeat. As the game progresses, the level of difficulty gradually increases and some monsters might even take you out multiple times on a quest if you’re not careful.
After reaching the High Ranks, even the monsters that were easy to deal with before become a force to be reckoned with. But some of them are the ones that you encounter in High Ranks, and even with all the upgraded gear and weapons, these monsters are bound to give you a thrilling challenge.

10Guardian Ebony Odogaron
Guardian Ebony Odogaron is fast and ferocious. This monster isn’t as large as some other Guardian threats that you may face in the game, but its agility makes it a strong threat for the Hunter. As a Guardian, this monster can summon Wylk Crystals with its attacks, and then make them all explode with a blast from its mouth.
Additionally, this monster’s attacks can inflict the Bleed status effect, which makes you lose HP the more you move. If you don’t have anything in your inventory to deal with this status effect, and you get hit by a few of the Guardian Ebony Odogaron’s attacks, your best bet is to pray for your Palico to throw a Pure Wasp at you; otherwise, you’re pretty much dead.

9Xu Wu
Xu Wu is similar to Nu Udra as both of them have tentacles, but Xu Wu is a lot quicker and can quickly jump from one end to the other. Xu Wu has plenty of ranged attacks, but none of them are as annoying as the one where it turns upside down, revealing its true mouth and thousands of teeth before dashing toward you at the speed of light.
Fighting against Xu Wu requires patience and skill. If you let your guard down for even a second, this weird octopus is going to eat you alive as it didwith Soshi.

8Gravios
Gravios has the toughest skin out of all the monsters that you’ll face. But the gimmick with this monster is that, once you hit it enough times, its armor will break, and you’ll be able to deal damage to it normally. But aside from the defense, the Gravios have some annoying attacks that can knock the Hunter out in one or two mistakes.
It has access to devastating long-range fire attacks, and if you think you’d be safe under its belly, the Gravios has a huge variety of attacks, including ones that can inflict poison, to ensure the Hunter is never safe to attack this monster’s belly.

7Rey Dau
While incredibly cool-looking, among the Apex Predators, the Rey Dau is significantly easier to defeat. Regardless of that, this massive lightning bird can still give you a tough challenge if you underestimate it for even a second.
Rey Dau’s long-range attacks are quite easy to dodge, but deal considerable damage if you accidentally get hit by them. Furthermore, you can get paralyzed after taking on multiple thunder attacks in quick succession and when that happens, you’re as good as dead.

6Rathalos
Rathalos is even more challenging than the Plains' Apex Predator Rey Dau. Rathalos is unusually aggressive, even more so than the Rathians, and you have to be quick on your feet at all times if you want to survive the fight against this monster.
The fight against this Wyvern is always fun and thrilling, but you have to watch out for it to start spewing fire or flying around the field. Among all the Wyverns, Rathalos is easily the toughest and most likely the coolest one to fight against.

TheGuardian version of Rathalosis even more challenging to defeat and will repeatedly summon Wylk Crystals during the fight. You have to be quick and destroy these Crystals yourself, before a blast from the Guardian Rathalos makes them explode.
5Uth Duna
Uth Duna is the Apex Predator of the Scarlet Forest, and for good reason. The first time you fight it, Uth Duna is bound to give you trouble, but as you reach the High Ranks and fight this monster again, you’ll notice that this monster hits harder than ever before and is also more durable.
The fights with Uth Duna are fun, but only till the monster starts jumping out of the water and starts to create waves, because these waves are going to sweep you away if you’re not super careful. Additionally, in High Ranks, the Uth Duna is even more aggressive than before.

4Nu Udra
Nu Udra, also referred to as the Black Flame, is the Apex Predator of the Oilwell Basin. This monster is incredibly challenging to fight against because it often coats itself in fire, and then it starts splish-splashing and all the explosive rubble will start flying around randomly, and it’s going to hurt a lot if you get hit by any of those.
The Nu Udra isn’t a monster you’d want to fight against without chugging down a cool drink, especially in the sections that are full of lava. You’ll also have to watch your steps in these sections, while avoiding all of this monster’s attacks, making it one of the more challenging fights in the game.

3Gore Magala
The first-ever fight against Gore Magala with Captain Fabius by your side is nothing short of epic. But, when you’refighting against Gore Magalasolo, it’s a different kind of monster. Aiming for its weak points is difficult enough, but having to deal with its agility, despite its massive size, can be a challenge.
Gore Magala has plenty of attacks that will keep you on your toes, and you have to be patient for the opportunity to strike, because if you don’t, Gore Magala is going to swallow you whole.

Gore Magala’s attacks can inflict Frenzy, which causes the Hunter to take more damage until the effect is removed, so you also have to be mindful of that whenever you head into the fight against this monster.
2Jin Dahaad
Jin Dahaad is easily one of the most epic fights in the game. This absolutely gigantic monster is as powerful as it’s large. While the rest of the fight is fairly doable, when this monster decides to unleash a nuke, that’s where things get grim.
At times during the fight, Jin Dahaad will coil up, unleashing an area-wide blast that will kill you with one hit, unless you’re able to bring down the rubble from the surroundings and hide behind it, but managing that while you’re fighting this monstrosity isn’t often possible.

1Arkveld
Fitting for the main antagonist of the story, Arkveld is the toughest monster to fight against in the game. Not only is it unbelievably quick, but its attacks are difficult to dodge consistently, and even if you manage to dodge its attacks, the window for attacking that you get after that is quite short to make the fight fair.
After reverting to the Origin Species, Arkveld will thoroughly test your skills if you’re ever in a fight against it. You’ll have to make use of everything, from careful aiming, dodging, and the use of items to survive, because this monster will make sure you get the fight you ask for when you challenge it.
