Summary

Hell Is Us, the third-person action game that many mistook for a Soulslike when it was first revealed, has popped back up atPlayStation’sState of Playwith a release date of September 4.

Even though PlayStation has been a little quiet so far in 2025 compared toXboxandNintendo(who kicked things off in January with some massive reveals), that shouldn’t be taken as a bad sign. There are a ton of games set for release this year that PlayStation has previously highlighted, some of which popped back up tonight.

Earlier this week,PlayStation confirmed all of the rumours by announcing that it’d be hosting its first State of Play showcase of the year, which was said to last longer than 40 minutes. Plenty has been shown off during the event so far, and one of the games featured was Nacon’s Hell Is Us,which previously appeared in the last State of Play we got for 2024.

Hell Is Us Launches This September

If you don’t remember Hell Is Us, it’s a third-person action-adventure game set in a mysterious world that looks to be almost abandoned. Although it was confirmed to be in development some time ago in 2022, itsfirst major appearance was during a State of Play last year where many mistook it for a Soulslike.

That isn’t the case, though as, while the combat does resemble some Soulslikes, the focus is much more on exploring the semi-open world without a compass or map. It’s an intriguing premise, and one that we just got to see more of during this year’s State of Play, which had a new trailer for the game.

New gameplay footage isn’t all that we got this time, though, as Nacon and Rogue Factor also decided to reveal that the game is planned for release on September 4. If you’ve kept your ears to the ground, this won’t come as a surprise,as PlayStation Game Size previously leaked the game’s information before the showcase and suggested that same release date.

Hell Is Us will also have an early access launch through its Digital Deluxe Edition on September 1.

Thanks to tonight’s showcase, we now know that to be true, which means it won’t be long until we get our hands on Hell Is Us for ourselves and see all of the ways that it’snota Soulslike. With how many big games in the genre there already are, that’s enough to get me in the door for sure.
