Update: 28/02/25 21:06PM GMT - Arrowhead has identified the issue and fixed the soaring liberation rates, meaning the Galactic War is now back on. Get out there and do your part soldier.
Earlier this week,Helldivers 2gave its players a very fun Major Order, asking them tochoose between some fancy new Gas Mines, or to save a bunch of feeble young adults. It was supposed to be a tough choice, harkening back to the good old days when players were made tochoose between children and anti-tank mines, but it turns out things were a lot easier than anticipated.
That’s because liberating planets in Helldivers 2 was extremely easy for a brief moment, and not many people were sure why. It could have been some clever ploy by Joel to psyche out players, but it turns out these very forgiving liberation rates were completely unintentional.

Turns out there can be too much liberty
First announced on the Helldivers 2 Discord server,and later on the game’s official Twitter account, it seems as though an error occurred while Arrowhead was updating the game’s backend, which caused liberation rates to briefly “skyrocket”. This made completing the latest Major Order extremely easy, but Arrowhead has claimed it’s “breaking the Galactic War mechanic itself”.
To stop the error from “harming the game experience”, Arrowhead has decided to go ahead and temporarily pause the Galactic War until the issue is fixed. That means you can still play Helldivers 2, but any actions on each planet won’t contribute to its liberation. Essentially, the entire war is frozen in time.
Thankfully, Arrowhead isn’t going to revert the recent Major Order completion, despite how easy it was, but it also doesn’t give us a timeframe for when this problem will be fixed, simply asking fans for patience and understanding. It says it will keep players updated on the situation, but with the war being frozen for a good six hours at the time of writing, it’s not looking like a quick fix.
