Helldivers 2hit new highs with theOmens of Tyranny update. Not only did the update finally introduce the long-awaited Illuminate, but it also brought melee weapons and vehicles to the game. This resulted infallen off players flocking back to the gameand propelling itback among the top charts on Steam.
While we know we haven’t seen the full might of the Illuminate yet, their Harvesters, Overseers, and Voteless are still very dangerous. They work well in tandem – focussing too much on the horde of Voteless may allow an Overseer to close in, or vice-versa. This is the main reason behind many players asking for a minigun.
Rain Down Some Liberty
If you head on over to theHelldivers subreddit right now, you’ll notice that one in three posts is about how miniguns should be added to the game. Yes, they would be useful for crowd control as well as suppressing Overseers, but the sheer number of posts about it is surprising. If you were hoping to discuss a certain topic in the subreddit, you’ll have to wade through a flood of minigun posts.
It seems that members of the subreddit areannoyed with these posts, and have decided to show it by sharing the most absurd stratagem concepts.
We have everything from requests for theiconic codpiece revolver from Machete Kills, to awhole destroyer on a Guard Dog, and even atactical floaty so that Helldivers can swim. One player, who wants to cosplay Thor, requestedan Orbital Arc stratagem, and, sticking to the theme, another asked for anArc Guard Dog for precision team-kills. Lastly, one fan even requested theBoston Dynamics robot dog with a gunmounted on it - we better be able to pet it.
It seems most players have forgotten that if they want a minigun, they can simply call down an EXO-45 Patriot Suit to get access to one, along with rockets as well. It seems that Arrowhead is quite happy with the changes it’s made to the guns, as creative director Johan Pilestedt replied to calls for a VC39 Accelerator Rifle buff with “balance doesn’t matter”.
