Summary
Sanrio created its beloved mascotHello Kittyin 1974 and it didn’t take long for them to realize one of the world’s most famous cats needed some friends. Just a year later, My Melody, a rabbit, was added into the mix, which means one year on from Hello Kitty’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, it’s now My Melody’s turn.
Sanrio releaseda special edition Hello Kitty Squishmallowto celebrate its mascot turning 50 last year, so it’s only right that My Melody receives the same treatment. Not only has My Melody’s birthday Squishmallow been revealed, but it’s available to buy right now from Squishmallow creators, Jazwares.

The 12-inch Squishmallow is $26.39, available through the link in the box below, and takes the soft pink color used for My Melody’s hood and applies it to the rest of the rabbit’s outfit. Although it doesn’t have the same gold facial features as Hello Kitty’s anniversary plush, My Melody’s new Squishmallow is clearly a lot fancier than the rabbit usually looks, with roses in her hair - or ears - and dark pink bows on what I’m assuming is supposed to be a dress. It can be hard to tell exactly what Squishmallows are supposed to be wearing.

Hello Kitty and Friends 50th Anniversary My Melody 12-Inch Squishmallow
Sanrio’s My Melody was created in 1975 which means in 2025, she turned 50. To celebrate, the Hello Kitty designers released a 50th anniversary Squishmallow. The rabbit has been decked out in roses and ribbons to celebrate her birthday and joins the 50th-anniversary Hello Kitty Squishmallow revealed the year prior.
As nice as it will be for My Melody fans to load up on new merch dedicated to their favorite Sanrio character, the most exciting way her birthday is being marked is viaa spot motion series hitting Netflix this summer. My Melody and Kuromi, who turns 20 this year, will star in their own show that looks a lot like a buddy comedy with My Melody playing the positive, cheery role and Kuromi fulfilling the darker other half to provide balance.

On top of all that, as of last week,Hello Kitty Island Adventureis now available onNintendo SwitchandPC. TheAnimal Crossing-like game was previously anApple Arcadeexclusive but came to more platforms on January 30. It’s still on track to addPS5andPS4to that list of platforms before the end of 2025.
