Horizon Zero Dawn MMO Reportedly Cancelled

Project H, which is believed to bethe rumoured NCsoft Horizon Zero Dawn MMO, has reportedly been cancelled.

Not to be confused withGuerrilla’s in-house multiplayer Horizon game.

That’s according to South Korean news outletMTN(viaResetErauser –R), who revealed that the decision to axe Project H came last year. The team was reportedly notified earlier this month, and has now been disbanded and moved elsewhere.

What Is Project H?

NCsoft announced in 2023that it was partnering with Sony to “collaborate in various global business fields” to “expand beyond console and broaden PlayStation’s reach to a wider audience”.

A year earlier, in 2022, a source close to both Sony and NCsoft reportedly toldMTNthat “NC will create new games using Sony’s promising IP”, including a “new game [using] theHorizonIP”.

The game in question was reported to be an MMO. It was even claimed that the development team, dubbed “H seed”, was originally working on a newGuild Warsgame that was put on hold in favour of this Horizon spin-off.

As broken down by reputable leakerKurakasis, an employee at NCsoft posted on LinkedIn that they were working on a game called “Project H” between 2021 and 2023, AKA “Skyline”, which fits with the aforementioned timeline. Looking at the project’s logo, you’ll even notice that it uses the same font as Horizon.

Perhaps it’s as obvious as the ‘H’ standing for Horizon.

It’s unclear why such a project might have been scrapped, but it’s worth noting that this news comes amidst the cancellation of a litany of other live-service Sony games,such as a God of War spin-off and an unknown Bend Studio project, which were scrapped in the wake ofConcord’shistoric failure.

As this reported MMO was the “first collaboration” between Sony and NCsoft, it remains to be seen how the two’s partnership will continue into the future, as it was believed that, should the Horizon spin-off succeed, it would have opened the door for NCsoft to work with more Sony-owned franchises.
