Housemarque Reveals Its First New Game Since Returnal
Saros is a new IP from the studio, launching next year
The Saros reveal may not have given us any gameplay, but the cinematics give us an idea of the vibe that Houesemarque is going for. And with the new IP launching at some point in 2026, it’s likely that we’ll get a better look at the game later on in the year, perhaps at the next State of Play.
As for what we can glean from the trailer, the description gives us more of an idea on what we’ll be up against:
Set on the planet Carcosa under the threat of an ominous eclipse, take on the role of Arjun Devraj, a powerful Soltari Enforcer searching for answers on a lost off-world colony.
SAROS features permanent progression systems, where every death reshapes the world while offering new upgrades to overcome challenges. With a haunting story, deep third-person action, and a grounded performance by Rahul Kohli, SAROS presents the next evolution in Housemarque’s gameplay-first experience.
Based on that descirption, it sounds like Saros will have roguelike elements, similar to Returnal. We’ll have to wait and see how far this is taken and how alike to Housemarque’s previous game this ends up being, but right now, it appear that this will be a major feature in Saros.
Like Returnal, it appears that Saros will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive at launch. However, Returnal was ported to PC a couple of years later, so it’s likely that the same will happen with Saros. In fact, since Returnal’s launch in 2021, Sony has appeared to be more willing to share its exclusives with PC storefronts much more promptly, as we already haveMarvel’s Spider-Man 2andFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthon PC.
Saros rounded off the State of Play this time around. Other games that were showcased includeBorderlands 4, which got a Septmeber 2025release date, andthe reveal of a Days Gone remaster, launching on April 25.
