Celebrations are a new aspect of gameplay inCivilization 7that rewards you for producing happiness in your empire. Even if you’re a longtime fan of the franchise, you may be wondering how Celebrations work, and how best to take advantage of them, particularly in the first 100 turns or so.
If that’s the case, look no further than this guide. While the base game of Civ 7 has tutorials that will walk you through the basics of Celebrations, there are some tips and tricks we’ll cover to help you maximize your Celebrations in your empire. Here’s everything you need to know.

What Are Celebrations?
Throughout your campaign in Civilization 7,your settlements and citizenry will generate a happiness yield, which triggers a Celebrationwhen you hit a certain threshold.
Once you start earning Celebrations, you canclick the Social Policies iconin the top left-hand corner of your screento see how many turns it will take for you to earn another Celebration.

Celebrations can earn you several different kinds of buffs, detailed below.
How Do Celebrations Work?
Once you’ve earned a Celebration, you’ll receive a pop-up window that allows you to pick between two limited boonsthat grant you a bonus of some kind for up to ten turns.
Some leaders have agendas that involve Celebrations. When engaging in diplomacy, try to find out if the Civ you’re talking to likes or dislikes you having Celebrations.

Here’s an example of an early in-game celebrationyou can earn if you have the right type of government.
+20 percent Culture for 10 turns.
+15 percent Production towards constructing Wonders for 10 turns.
The types of buffs you can earn are dictated by the type of active government you have, so be sure to experiment with different government types across playthroughs.
When you earn a Celebration, you’ll also unlock a Social Policy slotand the ability to insert new policies that can further boost your civilization’s yields, outputs, and more.
How To Get More Celebrations
Each time you earn a Celebration,the cost for your next Celebration will go up, increasing steadily over the course of your campaign.
The only way to keep earning Celebrations is tokeep generating happiness across your empire.
Happiness is always a valuable resource, especially later in the game, as you’ll need this to maintain productivity and keep Specialists working in your settlements.
How To Earn Happiness
There are a few different ways to earn happinessin a playthrough of Civilization 7. The most surefire way to earn happiness though is toconstruct buildings and improve tiles.
Here are some examplesof buildings and tile improvements that can yield you extra happiness.

You can also enact social policies to increase your happinessin both cities and towns.Here are a few examplesof social policies that can generate happiness.

Food and Happiness towards maintaining Specialists.
Divine Right
Happiness and Influence in your Capital.
Enacting any ofthese policies can lower your happiness requirementsin your empire,or boost your existing yieldsfor happiness, which will help you earn more Celebrations faster.
Lastly,you may also station Army Commanders in settlements with low happiness yieldsto boost their overall happiness.Use this as a last resort though, for settlements that are about to rebel or leave your empire.
