TheDynasty Warriorsseries feels endless. The Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a seemingly endless font of information and source for dramatisation that DYnasty Warriors can always pull from. In fact, the series has taken on plenty of life of its own, resulting in copious spin-offs far detached from Chinese history.

From collaborations with other studios to original games based on Dynasty Warriors, the Warriors series as a whole has plenty of life in it, and endless ways that it can be altered to fit any game. Seriously, there are so many of these games. How many, exactly? Let’s count.

How Many Original Warriors Games Are There?

Before we dive into how many of these games there are, it’s important to make a quick point. Dynasty Warriors makes up the bulk of the series, though not everything else is just a spin-off of that, or a licensed title. There are two main series here,Dynasty Warriors, and Samurai Warriors.

Dynasty Warriors

Dynasty Warriors is far-and-away the biggest series of them all, making up the bulk of entries in the series, and encompassing the most spin-offs as well.Every mainline game was also released internationally, meaning everyone gets a chance to see the whole series. Here are all of them:

The very first Dynasty Warriors was more like a fighting game,an action spin-off of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms strategy games.

Nice and simply, the Dynasty Warriors games, until the reboot that is Origins, go up in sequential order. Almost every single game, excluding the initial two entries, also come with a few extra versions. The first of these isXtreme Legends, which adds more charactersas well as a Musou mode for characters that originally didn’t have story for them.

The second is Empires. This harkens back to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, andadds a more tactical element to the gamesto let you plan out campaigns, rather than just moving from battle to battle.

In total, that gives usten mainline games. If you add in all the extra versions, that adds up to agrand total of 26 versionsof these games.

Samurai Warriors

A few years after Dynasty Warrios got its firm footing as a Musou game, a new series was born -Samurai Warriors. These games are functionally quite similar to Dynasty Warriors, though focus on the Sengoku period of Japanese history rather than China. Here are each of its game:

2006

2009

3 (4-II, Empires, DX)

Like their parent series, Samurai Warriors gets extra versions down the road as well. These are the same as well, withXtreme Legends and Empiresgiving more story, characters, and a tactical form of gameplay.
