Both fun and annoying, random encounters are quite common inKingdom Come: Deliverance 2.Some encounters will reward you with reputation points, skill points, and items, while others will leave you broke and broken on the road, and it’s not always clear which encounters are safe.
For encounters like the Happy Man at the fork in the road, what may seem like a friendly interaction can easily turn into a sticky situation. During this random encounter, the man will invite you to celebrate the birth of his first son with a drink of his finest brandy. But is the brandy worth it?
How To Find The Cheerful Man
Some encounters will start naturally as youtravel around the map,while others will only pop upwhile you fast-travel. Many of the encounters you’ll have fast-travelingcan be found manually, but there’s no guarantee you’ll get them.
TheCheerful Man or Happy Manwill show up on the side of the road as you are fast-traveling aroundRocktower Pond. He’ll flag you down as you near the’Rocktower Camp’at the three-way crossroads.
He’ll wave you over and ask if you’llcelebrate a momentous occasionwith him. He claims he has just had hisfirst sonand that he doesn’t want to toast his new baby alone.
You’ll havetwo dialogue optionswhen you meet the Happy Man:
If you congratulate him, he’ll invite you toshare a toastof special brandy with him.
After Henry asks the man what his son’s name is, the manhesitatesfor a moment before saying his boy’s name is Jonty. This is the first sign that the man is lying.
If you ask him ‘What does this have to do with me?’ he’ll apologize for bothering you and ask you tocelebrate with him anyway.
If he offers you a drink, you can respond with:
If you ask him about the brandy, he’ll say it’s aspecial brewthat’s been buried forten years. If you choose ‘I’m not in the mood right now,‘he’ll continue trying to convince youto drink the brandy.
At that point, you’re able to either relent andlet him pour you a drink, tell him ‘I couldn’t care less about your son,’ or say that you ‘don’t drink with strangers.’
If you refuse him with either of these options, he’ll tell you he feels insulted, thenstart to brawl with you. If you get too close to knocking him out,he’ll stab youand run away. You can try tocatch himand knock him out torob him.
Odds are you won’t have your weapon drawn when he fights you, buttry to avoid killing himas that will still count as a crime if you’re caught.

The only things of real value you’re able to take from him are his Groschen and the Lullaby potion.
What Happens If You Drink The Cheerful Man’s Wine?
If you choose totoast with the Happy Manat any point in the conversation, the brandy will put you tosleep for two hours. When you wake up, the man will be gone and you’ll lose some Groschen. The brandy was laced with the Weak Lullaby potion you may find in his inventory.
You canavoid being robbedeither byrefusingto drink the brandy or byrobbing the manof the Lullaby potion while he isn’t paying attention.
