During each and every run inHyper Light Breaker, you’re bound to pick up a ton of resources. That is, if you’re able to make it through the treacherous Overgrowth and extract in time. If your mission proves successful though, you’ll be rolling in resources in no time to help upgrade your build and help you out on your next run to the Abyss King.
But, if you’re just starting out, it can be tricky to know exactly what each resource is and how it helps you in your quest. So, here’s a breakdown of every resource in Hyper Light Breaker and why they’re worth collecting.

What Do Resources Do?
Throughout your campaign in Hyper Light Breaker,you’ll use resourcesthat you pick up in your runto do a number of things. These include the following.
Most resources can be found all over the map, however Vendors in the Cursed Outpost will also allow you to sell items in exchange for certain resources.

What Types Of Resources Can You Collect?
All in all,there are 11 different types of resourcesavailable in Hyper Light Breaker.All of these serve various purposes, though some can be used for the same things.
To break it down,let’s split these 11 resources up into three categories.

Currency Resources
Currency resources are resources dropped by enemies and found in the Overgrowth thatcan be used in the Cursed Outpostto buy Blades, Rails, Holobytes, Amps, and more.
you’re able to alsouse these resources to upgrade weapons and ampsyou find in the Overgrowth.

These resources are typically plentiful, and you’ll earn quite a few on each run.Here’s a breakdown of each resourceand what they do.
Location
Brightblood
This crystalized blood is the main currency in the game and can be exchanged for weapons and gear in the Cursed Outpost.
Materials
Ancient tech that also can be used to purchase gear from Vendors in the Cursed Outpost.
Medigems
Crystal-like, glowing green plants with healing properties. Can be converted to Medpacks or heal for +5 HP.
Upgrade Resources
Upgrade Resources are alsofound all over the map, and areused to upgrade your Breaker, your Sycom, and even unlock new playable characters.
These resources are incrediblyimportant for overall progression.Here’s a breakdownof these resources.

Golden Rations
Trade these in at the Cursed Outpost for permanent upgrades to your Breaker.
Abyss Stones
Trade in Abyss Stones to unlock permanent upgrades and new playable Breakers.
Map-Based Resources
Map-Based Resources helpunlock specific parts of the Overgrowth. They also include resourcesdropped by enemiesthat do not carry over from run-to-run.
Here’s a breakdownof what Map-Based Resources you’ll find in the Overgrowth.
Unlocks secret areas including labs and purple force fields.
Replenishes your ammo counter and overall battery charge.
What Are Phantom Fragments?
There is one additional resource worth noting, and that’s Phantom Fragments.These are more like collectibles than resources, but they’re worth seeking out anyway.
Phantom Fragments are found at random locations throughout the map.
Phantom Fragments are the memories of the Crowns, or the Overgrowth’s bosses.
Trade these in to Pherus Bitat the Cursed Outpostto unlock narrative artworkthat fills in details about the world of the Overgrowth.
What Resources Are Most Important?
Now that you have a basic understanding of these resources, you might be wondering,which ones are actually important?
While there’s no one-size-fits-all answer to that question, it is important to prioritize permanent upgradesin Hyper Light Breakerover temporary ones.This is becausemost of your resources carry over between cycles.
Brightblood, Materials, and Cores carry over,and are converted into Golden Rations,and can be used for permanent upgrades.
Maximizing resources like Golden Rations, and others that help permanently upgrade your build are ultimately more important.
Spend your Brightblood and Materials to get the weapons you needto earn these upgrades – it’ll be worth it in the end.
Remember, some resources go away in between cycles, these include Medigems, Keys, and Prisms.
