Foundationallows you to build the village of your dreams. It gives you the ability to choose between focusing on economic growth, military conquests, and clergy expeditions. There’s a lot to do in the game, and doing all of that at once can be a little overwhelming, especially if you’re not used to the genre.

As you make progress in the game, you’ll encounter a quest to appoint a Bailiff after you’ve set the ground for your village and have started production for necessities. Appointing a Bailiff can be tricky, as it’s one of the first things in the game that isn’t super straightforward.

How To Appoint A Bailiff

Appointing a Bailiff isnecessary to improve trade routes and approve mandates. To appoint a Bailiff, you’ll first have to unlock the Bailiff’s Office from the progression menu, and to do that, you must have unlocked the Manor House in the Labour faction.

Appointing a Royal Courtier, or a Monastic Emissary follows a similar procedure. For these specific roles, you will first have to unlock the Castle Keep and Monastery, respectively, from the Progression menu.

You will need at least25 Splendour to unlock the tier two Labour buildings, including the Bailiff’s Office. you’re able to increase your Labour Splendour by sub-building parts that raise the Labour Splendour. You can easily spot these buildings by the star icon on them. After that, you’ll needfive Labour Influence to unlock the Bailiff’s Office.

Unlike Splendour,Influence increases by completing quests. As you raise your Labour Splendour, you’ll encounter quests that also increase your Labour Influence. After you’ve acquired at least five Labour Influence, unlock the Bailiff’s Office from the Progression menu.

While you can easily build the sub-buildings, the light fortification part is a little challenging.Certain room structures offer light fortifications on their own, such as the Manor Tower Minor and the Manor Tower Major. You can spot these room structures that offer light fortification by a tiny fence icon on them.

If you already have placed a building that provides light fortification in the area, which can also be spotted by the purple circle in the build mode, you can place any room structure in it and that would fulfill the light fortification requirement for the Bailiff’s Office.

Once you have placed the required structures and all the requirements have been fulfilled, you can press the build button to start the construction of the Bailiff’s Office. Once the construction is complete, you can click on the Bailiff’s Office andselect the option to assign a Bailiff.

After doing that, you’ll be presented with a choice of three candidates for the Bailiff’s position. Each candidate provides a different type of bonus, and you’re able to choose the one that suits you the best.

How To Use The Bailiff

While appointing the Bailiff provides a passive bonus to your village, you will still need to do a little more to get the full utility out of them. To use the Bailiff, you’ll have toaccess the Manor Great Hall, the seat of your administration. From there, you can see a list of mandates that the Bailiff can approve.

These mandatesrequire you to pay a cost upfront, and the Bailiff will get to work on it. After the required time has passed, you will receive the promised rewards.
