Considering it’s in the name of the game, you sure do fight a whole lot of monsters inMonster Hunter Wilds. Everyone has their favourite monster across the series, from the most obscure small monster to the most iconic Elder Dragon. In Monster Hunter Wilds, the game’s first hunt is started off with Chatacabra.

Chatacabra is a bit like a very large frog with the ability to pummel you to death. Packed with a spiky body and a jaw that can crunch anything, Chatacabra is a simple but still formidable monster that gives you a strong start to the game, and has some great looking gear to boot.

Chatacabra - Strengths And Weaknesses

Chatacabra is a monster intended to introduce you to the game’s many systems, while still being formidable if they’re encountered across the rest of the map. That said, they are stillfairly generous in terms of what kind of weapons and armour you can bringagainst them. Let’s take a quick look at their various stats to start.

In general, Chatacabra is fairly easy to take on with any build, even in the early game. The one thing to keep in mind is thatthey take much more damage from the front, so you will want to stay aggressive against them and keep to their front if you want to end the battle quickly.

Whenever it is out, make sure to strike Chatacabra’s tongue, as this is their weakest point by far.

Best Equipment To Fight Chatacabra

Since Chatacabra is an early game monster, eventhe default armor sets of Hope, Leather, and Chainmail are all effective against them. They have no particular elements of ailments they can use against you either, nor do they have any special attacks. As such, just about anything will work against them as long as it has decent defense.

On the offensive side, just about every weapon deals the same degree of damage, and the majority of their body is able to be damaged quite easily.Don’t rely on anything too elementally-chargedas Chatacabra doesn’t have any particular weaknesses in this regard. Once again, the same weapons will work wonders here.

Chatacabra - Fight Breakdown And Moves

Being an early game monster,Chatacabra has a fairly limited movesetwith some pretty strong tells, but they can still pack quite a (literal) punch if you’re not careful. Here’s a breakdown of each of their moves, and the best way to avoid them.

Counter

Tongue Swipe

Chatacabra whips out their tongue and strikes around themselves in an arc.

Move away, or stay behind them.

Bite

Chatacabra will open their mouth and do a quick bite in front of themselves.

Move quickly to the side. The range is quite short on this attack

Fist Slam

Chatacabra will raise a fist before slamming it down in front of themselves. This can be followed up by a slam with the opposing fist.

Keep your distance as it is quite easy to get knocked away.

Double Fist Slam

Chatacabra will jump into the air and land down a short distance away, fists first.

Move away, or unleash a heavy attack while they’re in the air to instantly stun them.

Licking Charge

Chatacabra will whip out their tongue and start charging forward, knocking you out of the way.

Once again, move out of the way and follow after them.

As you can see, they’re a fairly generous fight, andtheir moves are quite slowas well. They give you plenty of time to move around, and their range is low so you can easily avoid the vast majority of attacks. The most important thing to keep in mind is that some attacks, their fist slams especially, havequite high knockbackthat can be hard to withstand without some buffs.

Depending on the environment Chatacabra is in, they can alsodig their hands into the ground and coat them in hard materials. This won’t change any of their attacks, but it will make them more powerful. Attack the fists to break away this extra material.

Chatacabra - Drops And Materials

Chatacabra doesn’t have a large variety of materials, andthey aren’t too complicated to geteither with none of them needing any particularly tricky tactics to acquire. Here’s each of them, listed in order of how drop rate.
