You’ve just scaled the Clock Tower inYs Memoire: The Oath in Felghana, gathered all of those statues and probably fell a whole lot mastering all that platforming. But the suffering isn’t over yet, because you’re about to battle one of the hardest boss fights in the entire game.

Chester Stoddart was one of the most difficult fights the first time around, and he’s back to be a menace once again. Equipped with two swords and an expanded moveset, he will barely give you a chance to breath, let alone beat him. But he’s not invincible, and here’s how to beat him.

Preparing For The Battle Against Chester

With how difficult Chester is, you’ll want to getsome prep donebefore you leap right into this one. His moveset isn’t dramatically different to what you encountered the first time, so you should already have an idea as to what helps here. He’s immune to magic, so the majority of your bracelets are useless here.

Except for the Terra Bracelet. While it won’t be able to deal damage to him, it does stilllet you negate any damage from his attacks. To that end, keep the Terra Bracelet equipped throughout the whole fight. The two Topaz you can acquire so far are found in the Elderm Mountains and Valestein Castle, so acquire both of these in advance.

Next is theTalisman of War. This is given to you by Randolph when you give him the Jade Ring. Getting the Jade Ring involves trading a whole bunch of Raval Ore to Antonio, 260 in total. That should be loose change at this point in the story. The Talisman of Warmakes your Boost Mode last even longerand is always active rather than needing to be equipped. This is essential.

Finally, upgrade all your armour and weapons. The Battle set is the best you may have at this point, all of it acquired in Valestein Castle. If you’re struggling against Chester, bring them up to the highest level you can.

attempt to be level 40at a minimum during this battle to give you an easier time.

How To Defeat Chester Stoddart

Chester fights quite similarly to his first battle, though with massively increased speed and damage this time around. Unlike his first battle, he hasvery few openingswhere you’re able to get a full combo in, constantly dashing around the arena with incredible tracking. This battle is mostly taking potshots on your end.

The danger of this fight is that if you keep too far from Chester, he will send projectiles after you, while if you’re too close, he has a much easier time hitting you.Try to keep closer to himthough, as this is your best chance of getting two or three hits in. A good strategy is to jump over his attacks anduse the descending slashon him, which deals a few hits anyway.

If you ever see Chester pull up a barrier in front of himself, immediately run away. If you strike this barrier,he will immediately counter-attack. He will typically follow you afterwards with a flurry of strikes.

After Chester’s HP is lowered enough,he will increase in speed, teleporting across the arenaand shooting out projectiles in every direction. This can be quite hard to dodge, so use the Terra Bracelet to dash into the attack instead, nullifying the damage. The Terra Bracelet has a fairly generous length of invulnerability too.

Where you’ll be dealingthe majority of your damage against Chester is with Double Boost. With this, the activation itself will deal plenty of damage, but you can then unleash a flurry of attacks against Chester himself. You’re not invincible during this and can still die, though the HP you regain should keep you alive during the attack. Just tank the damage so you can deal as much damage as possible to Chester.

You can alsouse the Double Boost to restore your healthif you’re not confident you have enough to defeat him.

Keep in mind that the first bar of your Boost Mode must be charged by both dealing and taking damage.Only the Double Charge fills passively.

And that’s about the entire fight. With somehealthy jumping and tactical use of Double Boost, you should have Chester beaten in no time. After that, you’re on to the top of the Clock Tower to a fight you can’t actually win this time.
