Guardian Arkveld is the primary target of the Guild’s investigations in the Forbidden Land inMonster Hunter Wilds. After tracking it through the region’s various biomes, you’ve finally found the artificial monster deep in the Ruins of Wyveria.
Before Guardian Arkveld can cause further harm to the ecosystem, you will have to put it down. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about this hunt, including each of Guardian Arkveld’s strengths and weaknesses, some recommended equipment to use, and how to deal with each of its attacks.
Chainblades are immune to all elemental damage

Guardian Arkveld is weakest to damage on itshead, tail, and Chainblades, but keep in mind thatits Chainblades are completely immune to elemental damage. On all other parts of the monster, theDragon element will deal more damage than others, but only by a small amount.
All status effects (except for Exhaust) work equally as well against Guardian Arkveld. Additionally, Slashing and Bludgeoning damage types will be your best bet, although any type of weapon can work.

Since you won’t be able to get a weapon with the Dragon element at this point in the game, we recommend sticking withPhysical weaponsdue to Guardian Arkveld’s Chainblades being immune to elemental damage. You’ll definitely want to be attacking these to break them and inflict Weak Points, so you won’t want to be penalized by using a weapon that relies on elemental damage.
TheDoshaguma and Guardian Doshaguma weaponswill be your strongest options here.
For armor, theGuardian Ebony setwill be great for this fight, givinghigh Dragon Reswhile providing useful offensive skills likeBurstandEbony Odogaron’s Power, which further increases the effectiveness of Burst. This set will be even more effective if you’re using a faster weapon like Dual Daggers or Sword and Shield.
Guardian Arkveld - Fight Breakdown And Moves
Guardian Arkveld is an aggressive monster, mainly using its arms and Chainblades to attack. As a Guardian, Arkveld has the ability tochannel Wylk into some of its attacks,adding an additional explosive element to some of its moves.
The main Wylk-powered attack that you’ll see it do is it willcharge up Wylk into one of its arms, then lunge forward, slamming down with the arm and creating an explosion in the area. When you see the Wylk flow into Arkveld’s arm, get ready tododge to the opposite sideto get out of the way.
Arkveld’s Wylk-powered attacks will also createWylkrystalsin the area, which willexplode if they’re hit with another burst of Wylk. Watch out for these, as they can become lost in the background and deal unnecessary damage if you aren’t paying attention.
Guardian Arkveld will also slam forward with each of its Chainblades in succession, dealing damage in a line. Dodge to the side to avoid these, then get back into position to get some hits on them, asthis attack will leave the monster vulnerable for a few seconds.
For the most part, Guardian Arkveld will uselarge, sweeping attacksthat can be difficult to dodge through. Instead, we recommendmaking space and getting out of the way before the attackcomesrather than relying on a dodge to evade it.Weapons with counters or blockscan also be very strong for this fight, if you’re able to execute them with the right timing.
When enraged, Guardian Arkveld willchannel Dragon element into its Chainblades, which will cause explosions of this element to detonate after certain attacks with its Chainblades. This will also cause the Wylkrystals to explode with Dragon damage, which is where the Guardian Ebony armor set will come in handy.
You canuse elemental Slinger ammo to blow up the Wylkrystals, dealing damage to Arkveld if it’s nearby while also clearing out the hazard from being used against you later.
The safest place to be during this fight is behind Guardian Arkveld, as it relies on the front half of its body for most of its attacks. If possible,get behind the monster as much as possibleto avoid its attacks and deal damage.
Guardian Arkveld - Drops And Materials
You will only be able to fight Guardian Arkveld this one time in the story, and it will drop thegeneric Guardian materialsdetailed below. However, defeating this monster will unlock the ability to craft the Low Rank version of the Guardian Arkveld armor, which is also crafted using parts from other LR Guardian monsters such asGuardian Ebony OdogaronandGuardian Rathalos.
