Monster Hunter Wildsbrings you to the Forbidden Lands, a place where several ecosystems host dozens of monsters in a very fragile balance. In a merciless place like this, the slightest push will change the fauna of the whole region, something you get to experience yourself after you finish the main story.

The King Of The Skies makes its triumphant return in Wilds, and is more aggressive than ever before! Rathalos is the most iconic monster in the whole series, so you know you’re able to expect a stellar fight. Here’s all you need to know about it!

Best Weapon Damage

Rathalos is equally weak to Slashing and Bludgeoning damage, so any weapons under that flag will serve more than fine. Regarding the elemental weaknesses, it is also weak to Thunder and Dragon damage, so weapons from monsters like Rey Dau or Guardian Arkveld will be extremely effective.

Once you’re in the battlefield, the parts you must aim for are its head, wings, legs, and tail; try to use weapons that allow you to reach the higher limbs like the wings, but if your options don’t help too much to do that, going for the legs is always the safe option.

While we include the maximum upgrades of each weapon we recommend, remember that any stage of those weapon’s lines will work.

For your weapons, The Tonitrus Clairblade, the Kuara Clairsword, or the G. Resounding Galahad should work perfectly, as they will hit hard both on the weapon damage side and also the elemental damage side.

On the defensive side, the Ajarakan and Rathian armor sets will provide the proper Fire Resistance, on top of having great skills like Divine Blessing, Partbreaker, or Resentment.

Rathalos - Fight Breakdown And Moves

Rathalos, similar to Rathian, is a huge monster; as such, every time it turns around or tries to take a bite out of you it will hurt a lot, so you must stay on your toes to avoid that. Where Rathian uses Poison damage, however, Rathalos uses the Fire element even more aggressively, so you must keep your eyes on those moves.

It will shoot fireballs with ease, it’ll shoot waves of fire from up in the sky, and it’ll also provoke huge fiery explosions that will hurt a lot, so staying close enough to avoid those long-range attacks is key. However, it’ll also try to come down and scratch you from time to time; be quick to evade those scratches, as they can poison you as well.

Overall, stay close enough, pay attention to its moves, and avoid getting burnt, and you should be eventually done with it.
