Hello Kitty Island Adventurehas a lot of characters that you’re able to interact with. Some characters will make themselves known early on, but not become fully available to befriend. This includes Tophat, who will pop up from time to time, only to disappear again.
In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to unlock and befriend Tophat in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. This will also go over the quests that you need to complete in order to freely speak with Tophat. It’s worth noting that you’ll unlock Tophat and Big Challenges at the same time, giving you two characters that you can now give gifts to.
Where To Find Tophat
Tophat has a lot of unlock requirements, sothis definitely isn’t early-game content.Many of these quests take a good chunk of time to complete, so don’t expect to unlock Tophat too quickly. Enjoy the ride until the unlock quest becomes available!
To unlock Tophat (and Big Challenges), you’ll need tocomplete the quest called A Challenging Rescue.This quest has a lot of requirements, which you can find below.
Once you have completed all of these quests, you canhead to the Icy Peak entrance at the top, right-hand side of Gemstone Mountain.Tophat will be waiting here for you.
This quest also involvesHello Kitty, My Melody, Keroppi, Badtz-maru, and Chococat.If they are busy, then you’ll need to wrap up whatever they are doing first. Here at TheGamer, the characters were busy, sowe had to complete all the loose ends before Tophat would give us the time of day.
After completing A Challenging Rescue,Tophat will remain in the Seaside Resort on the beach.As with everyone else, you can check the map for his icon if he’s ever not in the usual spot.
How To Complete A Challenging Rescue
A Challenging Rescue is rather simple andinitially starts with some lore dumping by Kiki and Lala.We won’t spoil this for you just in case you haven’t completed it yet, butyou’ll essentially learn why Tophat exists.
After speaking with everyone, you’ll need toproceed through the entrance to the Icy Peak and begin to climb.The areas that you will climb will be evident, as they have little rocks jutting out.
Rather than just climbing, you’ll need totime your movement with the winds.When the winds are blowing, you won’t be able to climb up. This is visually on the screen, butthere is also a little green icon under the map that is present if the winds are too strong.
If the wind does happen when you are climbing,you’ll fall down and lose all of your stamina.As such, it’s important to start climbing right as the wind ends. This gives you the most amount of time to climb.
As you climb, you’ll arrive at a few platforms with Tophat and a few characters.Speak to whoever awaits,and then move upward. You’ll see some entryways that go inside the mountain, but going into these is optional. The route to the top requires you tostick to the outside of the mountain.
At the very top, you’re able to interact with afast-travel mailbox for access later.Once you speak with Tophat, you’ll attempt touse your pickaxe to break Big Challenges out of the ice,but this proves to be useless. Thankfully, Kiki and Lala will help! Watch some more conversation, andthen the quest will end!Both Tophat and Big Challenges will bestanding on the beach of the Seaside Resort.
Although Kiki and Lala are involved in this quest,they don’t unlock yet.For now, they will just guide you for a bit and then disappear again.
Gifts To Give Tophat
With Tophat unlocked, it’s time to shower him with gifts! Like everyone else, Tophat has some favorite tags,including Digital, Stars, and Fancy.These look like agrid of ones and zeros, a star, and a monocle.
If a gift has at least one of these tags, it will have one heart. You’ll also be able to give him two and three-heart gifts, which are on the table below.

In return for giving Tophat a gift,he will give you Glitches.These are used to makeholograms, power crystal statues, and gifts that he likes.
What should you actually give him to build up your friendship with Tophat? We recommend giving himitems with the Fancy tag at first, as this tag is the most common of the three.Here at TheGamer,we brewed a lot of Candied Banana Coffeeand gave it to him.
Other fancy gifts include area-specific gift boxes,Spinip Alfredo Pizza, andRed Bow Apple Pie. Once you reachfriendship level 13 with Chococat, you’ll be able to make the Computer,which is a two-heart gift for Tophat.
If you have enough Blank Books,you can also make Glitchy Books,which just require the blank version and one Glitch. You’ll get the recipe for thisafter reaching friendship level two with Tophat,and it’s relatively cheap.
Friendship Rewards
Tophat has the lowest number of friendship levels,capping out at just ten.Below, you can check out all the rewards for each level.

Pickup Glitch gives you a ten percent chance to pick up two items when you pick something up.
Quests From Tophat
Tophat doesn’t have any one-time quests that unlock when you increase friendship. It’s important to note thatthere are still quests tied to Tophat, they just don’t unlock at certain levels.For example,Island Champions is given by Tophat,but it requires you to completeA Challenging Rescue and A Long Awaited Introduction (this unlocks Wish Me Mell).
Below, you can check out thethree daily quests associated with Tophat.As with all daily quests for the characters, they are randomized, and it’s not guaranteed that you will see a Tophat daily quest.
