Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Editionhas a relatively robust character creator for its series-unique custom protagonist, but it can do a somewhat poor job of demonstrating what your lad or lass will look like once they’re out roaming the mysterious planet of Mira, or even hanging out back at home.

Should you find yourself dissatisfied with your hero’s eyes, hair, facial markings, or what-have-you, there is a way to redo the whole ordeal. Alas, it requires a fair degree of progress through the game’s core story. But once you achieve the prerequisites, you can tweak your looks to your heart’s content.

How To Change Appearance In Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition

There aretwo primary prerequisitesin place which willprevent you from editing your character’s appearance until they’ve both been met. As it happens, they’re bothquests.

Yardley’s Scheme

The first of these two quests is entitled’Yardley’s Scheme', and it’s only available upon completion of a main story quest,‘Builders of a Legacy’, which isChapter 3, so you’ll hit upon it by default as you progress through the early hours of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s tale.

Head to theOutfitters Test Hangarin (of course) New Los Angeles. Your destination is in theIndustrial District. Chat withYardleyhere. You’ll need to find these two items for him:

The Space Analyzers are easy to forage, asyou’ll find them throughout Primordiaat a rapid clip. The California Sunset isalso in Primordia, within cavernshere. Return to Yardley to complete this quest.

If you’re just starting out in Xenoblade Chronicles X, you might not know what we mean by caverns. Basically, any relatively hidden spots with lanterns outsidecount as such, and there’s a separate music theme for them. California Sunsets appear atRock Cavern, for instance, which is north ofSilent Mirein Primordia.

House Of Cards

‘House of Cards’won’t be available until a fair bit further on. You’ll need to have completed’Ma-non Maneuvers’, which corresponds withChapter 5.

At this point, you’ll probably want to be aroundlevel 20-23, for the record. Not that this is important within the context of ‘House of Cards’, mind you, but if you’re very early in Xenoblade Chronicles X, this should give you some idea of how long it’ll take before appearance change is unlocked.

Back toNew Los Angeles, and venture forth to themission control terminal.Yardleyis here, and he’s missing akeycard. Naturally, it’s on you to solve this little mess of his.

Pull up yourFollow Ball- bless Monolith Soft for this thing! - to snag the keycard, which will be given that orange-hued collectible colour which is often used in Xenoblade games to signifyquest collectiblesas opposed to blue-huednormal collectibles.

Head to theCommercial District, where Yardley awaits. It’ll need to beafternoon, and thankfully, Definitive Edition allows you toadjust the timeaccordingly. Give him the keycard.

Now,change the time again, to night, and you’ll find Yardley at the bottom-most level of theAdministrative District. As ‘House of Cards’ concludes, you’ll gain access toa terminal which lets you alter your appearance! You’ll also gain afast travel optionfor the thing. Nice.

Just make sure it’slate at nightwhenever you want to swap your protagonist’s look, as you can’t do this otherwise.
