How To Defeat Dularn, The Creeping Shadow In Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana
Being the first boss encounter of Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana,Dularn, the Creeping Shadow, doesn’t have too many moves at his disposal, making himeasily telegraphed. While youcan only hit him in specific circumstances,he will expose himself quite regularly, allowing you to defeat him quickly.
Overall,Dularn only has access to four movestotal, withone only coming into play when you drop his health quite drastically. So, in reality, you onlyreally have to worry about threeof them. You can learn more about all of his attacks, how to avoid them, and when you can attack him in the sections below!

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Barrier
Before attacking, Dularn will also conjure a protective Barrieraround himself, making himimmune to physical attackswhile it’s active. Since you only have your Sword at the moment, youcannot attack him when it’s activeand must wait for it to deplete before doing so.
Fortunately, the Barrier will always drop at the same time, allowing you torecognize the timing and when you can attackhim, making the encounter much more manageable overall. For now, let’s focus on the three attacks you will be dealing with the most!

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Triple Sword Attack
Most of Dularn’s attacks involve him summoning Golden Swordsandsending them toward Adolat blazing speeds, which can be tricky to deal with at first. One of the simple ones to avoid is hisTriple Sword Attack, having himconjure Three Golden Swords straight into the airbefore launching them at Adol.
When yousee the Three Golden Swords get lifted into the air, create distancebetween you and Dularn, thenbegin running to the left or right to have them missyou entirely. Youcan also try timing a jump as they get lowerto the ground, but that’ssubstantially harder.

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Four Sword Attack
Next is hisFour Sword Attack, which has himsummon Four Golden Swords around himself before letting them looseand having themzip around the arena with slight homing properties.Theywon’t travel in a linear patternlike the previous action, so be on high alert during this attack.
Like before, once you see him summon the Four Golden Swordsaround himself, create distanceand wait for him to launch the attack. AstheSwords approach you, leap over them, and try jumpingaway from the others and into a more open spaceso you can jump again if others are still chasing you.

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Five Sword Attack
Thelast Sword Attackis his, you guessed it,Five Sword Attack, having himsummon Five Golden Swords in a row in front of himselfbeforelaunching them straight aheadtoward Adol. This is alinear attack, and the Swords will always travel in a straight line.
Werecommend getting closer to himwith this action, as you canleap over one of the Swords as soon as he launches them, placing you directly beside him. Youcan also run to the far left or right of the arena to avoid them entirely, but youlikely won’t be fast enoughto get out of the way in most situations.

Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - When To Attack
As mentioned earlier,Dularn will shield himself with a Barrier before attacking, making himinvincible to all Physical Damagewhile it’s active. You mustwait for it to deplete before you can deal damageto him. Fortunately, you will always know when it’s about to go away and take advantage of it every time.
After every third Sword Attack, Dularn’s Barrier will deactivate, allowing you toland several hits onto him before he teleports away.He will thenblink back onto the arena, reapply the Barrier, and repeathis attacks. This is the general pattern of this encounter.

Please be aware, though, thathe will never perform the same pattern of Sword Attacks,so youmust always be on your toes.He could do his Four Sword Attack all three times or can go in ascending order, and might even do two Three Sword Attacks and one Five Sword Attack.
Nonetheless, after he performs the third Sword Attack, his Barrier will be down, allowing you to run up to him and unleash a barrage of attacksonto him. If you have yourBoostavailable, activate it during his third Sword Attack,as you will be able to deal tremendous amounts of damage to him as a result!
Dularn, The Creeping Shadow - Flame Wall
Lastly, once you get his health down quite substantially,he will rarely toss out aFlame Wallattack that has himlaunch Six Fireballs in a tight group forwardthat willeventually spread further and further out the more they travel. These Fireballs will damage you decently, so you must avoid them at all costs.
Furthermore,he will only perform this attack after he does his third Sword Attackto throw you off even more. So,instead of being able to hit him, he will instantly teleport awayfrom you and willimmediately cast this Flame Wallattack. Again, hewon’t always do this, but it can trip you upif you aren’t anticipating it.
If yousee him teleport after launching his third Sword Attack, track where he wentandbegin running toward him.As soon as he casts the Fire Wall, leap over it when the Fireballs are still lumped together. The further they spread apart, the harder it will be to avoid. After doing this, you canattack him, as his Barrier will still be down!
